Some pictures for Michele's meet & greet

I know some people don't like bugs but these shots aren't quite as 'gruesome' as the pictures I posted a few days ago of spiders. I took a bunch of pictures and the most interesting ones revolve around that weird bug in the middle top of the first picture. I'll post more pics of it tomorrow. I have no idea what kind of bug it is but it was very territorial--chasing bees away when it wasn't sucking up nectar. However once it started getting nectar it would not stop for a set period of time. Around 30 seconds, I think.

This picture has 2 bees on top of the flowers along with their aggressive friend in the middle. There's also a very small bug on the extreme right side flying toward the flowers. It's kinda small.

There was very little activity around these flowers until a week ago and since then the bees and moths have been hanging around like crazy. Apparently this is some tasty stuff.

Here's one solo bee just chilling out and getting a drink of his favorite beverage. You can see some pollen shining on his back. The green sheen on the eyes is very interesting. I don't recall seeing that before and might be due to the flash and not really the eyes themselves being green.

I have some hornets around and they're very difficult to take pictures of since they're ornery. The bees here are docile and seem to like their pictures taken. So far no requests for reprints but I'm waiting. Maybe they're shy...

Now here's a critter with some serious peepers! Those eyes take up most of the head. It's like Japanese Anime!

I like how the colors on the wings reflects the light of the flash as well as the depth of field between the sets of flowers. My camera doesn't have user adjustable f-stops so I don't get this effect often.

ugh!!! Your killing me here. Every time I come to your site I find bugs and you know how I feel about this. ;-) (Actually, your photos are amazing as always.) But can't we go back to tv shows and music posts? Those don't make my skin crawl!

Thanks, Raehan. I like your site's design as well.

Sorry about that Diane. I know I should take greater care with my posts when you visit. I surely don't want to upset you. :-D

More gorgeous photos of gorgeous bugs! They aren't creepy at all!
Where is this mystery bug that you were talking about though? Am I blind or just daft? :o)

This is my "Michele sent me" comment. I was here earlier too.

The mystery bug is the one at the far top of the photo, Yaeli. It kinda looks like it's playing a flute. It's got its proboscus extended into the flower's naughty parts and is getting nectar--and that's what is giving the "flute look".

I like these pictures a lot better than the spider ones, which is saying a lot since I hate bugs of all kind. I think these bugs don't bug (couldn't help but use the pun) me so much because your pictures look so serene and beautiful.

What type of lense do you use to take your photos?

Hi there Music W. Thanks for the compliment. You're right--there's bees everywhere lately.

Sorry to creep you out, Dave. I'd have thought living close to the land like you do would innure you to that sort of thing.

Trista--thanks for visiting! I don't use a specific lens since I have an autofocus digital camera with a built-in lens. In this case I was using the macro with the lens out to the 105mm equivalent.

Thanks, Carol and Jewaira.

Hi Michele sent me :-)

Excellent photos, I wish I could take pics as good as that with my digicam! The problem is getting the subject matter to stay still long enough to remain in focus heheh.

Lois! Great to see you--sorry about the bugs. I'll do a non-bug post tonight.

better bugs than snakes...hi from micheles.

I am spider-inured from observing them as they devour flies and mosquitoes. Seattle spiders are our friends.

Kayaking--I hope to try that soon!

Great photos!

Oops...Michele sent me, of course!

They look delicious, especially the bottom one. After a flutter it can be a great end to chase. My people got me a paper one that winds up with rubber but it isn't the same a real thing.

A bug isn't just a bug anymore once you photograph it... I love the photos. I take photos of outdoor critters and creatures all the time - spiders, butterflies, lizards, etc Just whatever it there. Nature is great.

Michele sent me back, hope you don't mind.
