This is my first tag response, perhaps ever first! Well, here’s the rules of this tagged: 1. Link the person(s) who tagged you 2. Mention these rules on your blog., 3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours. 4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them. 5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged. Maryam Tagged me. Utenzi Quirks: Actually the difficult thing here is limiting it to 6. I've got so many quirks that I could come up with 6 dozen easy. 1. I like to peer out of windows before I go outside just in case there's enemies lurking. 2. I hate to cook with meat that's been defrosted but it doesn't bother me when other people do it. 3. I hate to have my pillows touch the floor--though Lee is even worse about that than I am. 4. I'm a little obsessive about washing my hands to the tune of maybe 12-15 times a day. 5. I don't like having other people see me so as a result I tend to do things at odd times of the...

bookcase meme

Image
The lovely Diane over at Martinis for Two invited me to do a meme. The theme is what's on your bookcases. Well, mostly books in my house. As you can see in the following pictures, I have a lot of books. 3 bookcases of them in my upstairs storage room, another bookcase of hardcovers in the upstairs landing, another bookcase of hardcovers in the living room, cookbooks in the downstairs hallway, and finally more hardcovers in the bedroom--along with some fleece socks, camera batteries, a box of candles, and some bug spray. The bedroom bookcase attracts some clutter. I'll pass this meme on to Liz at Library Tavern , cause she's a librarian, and to Sassy cause I hear she's got a lot of books. Enjoy!

5 Things About My Life That I Never Thought I'd Have or Experience Back When I Was 25. 9 days ago Shephard tagged me with this meme. I admit I've been a wee big slow in taking it on but I've finally written it up. Thanks, Shephard! I've got a few years on Shephard seeing as he's 43 and I'm 46 but we're both a good bit younger than Naomi who tagged Shephard. She turned 70 a few months ago. When I was 25 I was in grad school at UGA working on a PhD in philosophy. By the time I was 27 I'd left the school with a MA instead and went back to work in research biology. 1. Geography is one thing, I guess. I knew I didn't like the snow and cold of upstate NY but it is a bit surprising to find myself still living in the southeast 21 years later. 2. I never thought I'd experience so many ups and downs in the employment area but that's the way things go in academic research. If a grant doesn't get funded, you hit the road looking for a new job. 3. A...

Tuesday Meme

Sassy tagged me with this meme. She got it in turn from Tiffany at Trivial Affairs . A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning. B. Each player list 6 facts/habits/secrets about themselves. C. At the end of the post, the player then tags people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog. My 6 facts/habits/secrets: 1. I grew up in a very remote area of New York state where the deer and bear vastly outnumbered the people. You could go to the town dump at night and shine spotlights on the black bears rooting amongst the garbage piles. You didn't want to get too close tho. 2. While I've had a number of jobs over the years I always seem to return to research biology. I've been working at UNC on breast cancer for the past 6+ years. Right now the research focus is angiogenesis but you never know where the next set of experiments will take us. 3. My worst habit ...

I got tagged with a meme by Tiff who runs an amusing blog named " No Accent Yet ". The name refers to Tiff's move down here to the Southern USA--she lives near Raleigh around 40 or 50 miles from me--and her supposed lack of a Souther drawl. Since I've never heard her voice I only have her word for that tho. Here goes, first with the rules and then with the answers and THEN with the tags. 1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts. 2. You must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. 3. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog. My middle name is Paul so I've got to come up with 4 facts --relevant ones, apparently-- as a result. Oh joy. P: prickly . People tend to annoy...

Are you well traveled?

Image
I caught a meme at Liz's Library Tavern and being a bit lazy today, I decided to post it myself. Just how well traveled are you?! Your Travel Profile: You Are Extremely Well Traveled in the Northeastern United States (86%) You Are Very Well Traveled in the Midwestern United States (75%) You Are Very Well Traveled in the Southern United States (62%) You Are Well Traveled in Canada (60%) You Are Well Traveled in the Western United States (42%) You Are Mostly Untraveled in Western Europe (14%) You Are Mostly Untraveled in Southern Europe (13%) You Are Untraveled in Africa (0%) You Are Untraveled in Asia (0%) You Are Untraveled in Australia (0%) You Are Untraveled in Eastern Europe (0%) You Are Untraveled in Latin America (0%) You Are Untraveled in New Zealand (0%) You Are Untraveled in Scandinavia (0%) You Are Untraveled in the Middle East (0%) You Are Untraveled in the United Kingdom (0%) How Well Traveled Are You?

What are you worth (dead)?

This is slightly morbid but with potentially useful information to the ones you leave behind when you die. LOL Liz, over at the Library Tavern , keyed me into this quiz. Actually while the questions seem valid and well grounded, I don't know how accurate the thing is. After all, it's really a come-on for a dating site. I'm not sure what the connection is between dating and evaluating corpse worth is tho. Anyone have any ideas on that? $3755.00 The Cadaver Calculator - Find out how much your body is worth Mingle 2 - Online Dating

a meme

I rarely do memes but since Cravey was adament, here's one now: What were you doing 10 years ago? I'd been working at Emory for 8 years at that point and had been "horsetraded" to a molecular biologist for just over a year to get some work done on a new project for my boss. So that meant I had two bosses and one was a real ASSHOLE. He'd burned through 6 people in one year and Personnel would no longer send applicants his way, which is why I was elected to work with the dick. I was not happy about the situation! What were you doing 1 year ago? Pretty much the same thing I'm doing now. At that time I had a girlfriend so that was a difference but I have the same house and same job--I do have a new car since then. Five snacks you enjoy: 1. Froot Loops 2. Pringles 3. Hershey Nuggets 4. Capn Crunch 5. Chocolate Covered Cherries Five songs to which you know all the lyrics: 1. I have no functional memory. I can't reliably remember my own name all the time. 2-5. S...
