Hell's Kitchen

Image
I was going for the C's in Hell's Kitchen this season. Unfortunately both of them have been eliminated. That's Carol below... she got eliminated this week. Colleen, a former HS cheerleader than never quite grew out of that mindset, went down in flames a number of weeks ago. Her lack of culinary skills---odd in a cooking school instructor---did her in. Likewise, Carol just couldn't cut it in Hell's Kitchen---strong ego but iffy skillset---and Ramsay rode her in nearly every episode. I didn't like them because I thought that they'd win, I liked them because they were cute as the dickens. Or maybe I just like women with names that start in "C" (and "J" also, of course). I wonder about that at times. I used to have a strong preference for women that have names that start with "D". Maybe it was mildly masked narcissism? Carol, 30, of Knoxville TN, had a nice resume but had only been out of culinary school (Le Cordon Bleu of Las Vegas...

Hot Heads

I watched the season primiere of Hell's Kitchen today. The show appeared on FOX on the 29th but I wasn't in any hurry to see it. The first few episodes are always the same. Ramsey losing his temper and the chef-contestants not finishing service. As you might guess, Gordon Ramsay qualifies as a hot head. So too, by reasons of coloration, is the cardinal at left. I got the picture of him today as he was eating some seeds on my deck rail. If you watch Hell's Kitchen, this season does seem to have picked some chefs with talent and experience. In the past two seasons it seemed the producers were picking contestants mainly for being "colorful" and that was just annoying. Most of the 16 chefs this season seem to know what they're doing. But only time will tell... And speaking of knowing what they're doing, I watched a movie last night that was quirky but very interesting. Gone Baby Gone is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane and is directed by Ben Affleck and st...

Hell's Kitchen

Girls and boys, it's almost time for season 3 of Hell's Kitchen . Prepare your sensibilities to be shocked 'cause nasty ole chef Gordon Ramsay is going to hit the airwaves again Monday June 4 at 9pm (est) on FOX. I can hardly wait. Last season was quite good despite Ramsay's continual bad humor. No doubt Season 3 will be even better. This time the winner (survivor?) gets the coveted title of Head Chef at a new fine Italian restaurant at the luxurious Green Valley Ranch Resort in Las Vegas. Green Valley Ranch is the sister property of the Red Rock Casino, where Season Two winner Heather West , pictured to the left, is currently working as senior chef at Terra Rossa restaurant. Notice that Heather's not head chef--nor is she at the premier restaurant that she initially was assigned to. Apparently somewhere in the conditions of being on the show is a possibility of being demoted--even if you won the head chef spot. Anyway, here's the list of the Season Three contes...

Hell's Kitchen

The final 2 hour episode was on Monday night, at least here in the US, but I didn't want to post about it too soon since some readers might not have seen it yet. If you've not seen it and want to be surprised -- STOP READING! Like I mentioned a few days ago , I really liked the story arc this season. Because Chef Ramsay is such a dick I didn't watch the entire season last year but I'm glad I stuck it out this time. The show is quite impressive in that it shows how much improvement these people make in the course of one season--at least some of them improve. This last episode pitted the two final contestants, Heather and Virginia, against one another using the eliminated contestants as their cooks. It was quickly apparent that there was a very good reason some of those people had been eliminated! Of course that's part of what made it a very good elimination battle as well as good theatre. Since the point of the show is to select an executive chef, skills at delegatio...
