I wasn't very impressed with that first episode of Better off Ted , the other night. For a season opener it really seemed weak. The main gimmick of the company genetic matchmaking was okay but they didn't really push the issue as far as usual nor was the writing or acting quite as "pure" as in the first season. I hope next week's episode is an improvement. I'd hate to see this show not live up to the promise created by the first season. What did you think of the end of Top Chef ? Personally I'd have been happy with any of the final 5 winning---they were all quite good---but the fellow I thought would win, did win. Not that he was my favorite, Kevin was more likable, but the edgy approach combined with a lot of competency and competitiveness made Michael a hard act to beat. By the way, Michael and his older brother Bryan have a joint website now: The Voltaggio Brothers .

Better off Ted

It's only a few more weeks until Xmas which makes it a more likely time to end a television series, Top Chef on Wednesday night, for example. Yet two series are going against the tide this week. The second season of Better off Ted starts up tonight. The first season was really witty and well acted, and I hope season two can avoid that sophomore jinx . The second show, Men of a Certain Age , debuted last night. I recorded it but didn't watch it. I've only seen bad reviews so there's a good chance that I won't bother with it... but the guys in the show are all around my age. Maybe I should watch the show so I can know how I should feel towards life... LOL This last episode of Top Chef should be interesting. Kevin and the two brothers are all strong competitors. The brothers are a little older and more experienced but Kevin is very centered and aware of his strengths and plays towards them. It's surprising how many contestants would try out dishes that they'...

Ode to an Eve

I didn't watch the first 3 seasons of Top Chef on Bravo but I wish I had. This is a very interesting reality show. The second episode of the 6th season aired tonight and even this early it's quite apparent that this is the best season I've seen yet. The only downside is that I've liked both chefs knocked off the show in these first two episodes. In fact I thought the chef kicked off this week is adorable. Just something about her personality and looks. You could probably figure out a lot of things about my personality from this. LOL And little of it complimentary to me. But there weren't many chef skills demonstrated so being kicked off the show was no surprise. The weird thing is that she has a great pedigree in the culinary arts and owns and operates her own restaurant with earned honors in her field. Maybe there was something going on that had her distracted... Switching gears a bit, this past Sunday the final episode of Top Chef Masters was aired and I was VE...

Top Chef

WARNING: Spoilers follow... WTF? It's the first episode of the new season of Top Chef and the hottest woman is already eliminated. What the hell? Are they trying to push away their audience? The two people I liked most from the interviews, Patrick and Lauren, did the worst in skills challenge. Not good. I've only watched the first part of the show---I'll watch the rest in a few minutes. The Manhattan apartment the contestants are being put up in certainly looks great. I wonder how much cash it takes to hold down an amazing pad like that. $$$$ I just finished watching the rest of the first episode and Patrick lost at the end. Damn. My two favorites both gone on the very first show. They were also the two youngest at 21 and 24 which might have something to do with it. One was a CIA grad and the other is currently enrolled there. Interesting.

Steamy and brutal

Today was pretty hot and I finally gave in and turned on my A/C for the first time of the year around 8pm. If I hadn't, tomorrow would have been the final straw. Today got up to 90 but tomorrow is projected for 98. And the following days? 99, 101, and 99 again. It's going to be brutal--and since there's occasional afternoon thunder showers expected, steamy too. For yet another weekend, I'm toying with the idea of going to the NC State Zoo but if I do, it'll have to be as soon as they open 'cause it's going to be so damn hot. *whew* I'm sweating just thinking about it. Maybe I'd best turn that A/C down a degree or two. And since we're talking about hot and steamy, I just started watching this year's Top Chef competition. Since they're going into the final two shows I thought it was about time to start. Fortunately since it's a cable show (Bravo Network) they're rebroadcasting the entire season (several times) before they close t...
