Cold December

Here in NC we've had a very mild season so far. But December first seems to be bringing new weather to town.

As you can see in the picture over there, we've got a lot of nights of below freezing weather about to hit. I can't say that I'm happy about that but at least it waited this long to arrive.

The weather has been very mild with the exception of a few nights here and there. My electric bills have been almost pleasant to see. Hell, my heat didn't turn on even once all last night---but that's about to chance with the sub-30 degree temperatures that are coming in.

In other news, Thanksgiving last week was unusual for me.

For one thing, I didn't spend the day with relatives. This is the first Thanksgiving in over 20 years that I didn't spend with my family. Instead, I spent it with the family of my girlfriend.

And to celebrate this change in venue, I got a puffy eye. The picture there to the left was taken around 10 minutes after my girlfriend's daughter's dog lunged at my face and gave me that bruise. Now, a week later, it's puffy and yellow with some mild red streakiness to it. But at least it's not a real black eye.

Despite the animal attack, it was nice to go to Thanksgiving there. If nothing else, it was a lot quicker. The drive there took me 10 minutes. Had I gone to my brother's house the drive would have taken over 6 hours. And in a few weeks I'll be making that drive anyway to join the family Xmas celebration.

The word for our weather is "schizophrenic".... in the 40's one day, up to the 70's the next then down to 31 the same night. This morning it was 69 and tonight it is supposed to be 31... yes, schizophrenic.

Long list? Ha! Cats are nasty. They just shed slimy stuff all over and sleep with their butt on your face. Cat butt. *shudder*

The Latin behind "schzophrenic" is "two minds" and that sure does describe the weather now.

Hey - their 'slimy stuff' doesn't compare to doggy drool!

Cats just don't want you to be cold...thoughful of them (and on the loong list).

No such thing as 'icky cat slime' and they don't scrape their butts across the living room carpet either. And they don't hump legs - want me to go on?

i dread the colder temps but want a BIG snow badly. we only got about an inch yesterday, if that. i'm sorry to hear about the dog attack. hope your eye hasn't hurt to much. and, are those your new glasses you're wearing? have a great day.

Nitroflex at home

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. The picture to the left is the pieces from the box, unboxed, and up in one of my upstairs bedrooms. For the most part it wasn't difficult to move it around though two pieces were heavy and a number of them were kinda long and bulky to be wandering about the house with. Surprisingly, this kit didn't require any extra tools. There were two allen keys and one combo wrench included in the boxes and that was all it took to put it together. ankle update

S ince a few people object to seeing my feet --poor misdirected souls--I have the two pictures below hidden behind links. Behold them at your own risk! *evil laugh* Actually they're not scary though the first one is a little colorful. T he first picture shows my ankle and foot from the side, as labeled. You can see a lot of general edema of the entire foot. There's also a good bit of discoloration of the ankle area and to a lesser degree the top of the foot all the way down to the toes. The side view is a lot worse in this regard than the top view. T he second picture shows the two feet from the top so you can compare the somewhat normal looking right foot to the injured left foot. There's not much abnormal color on this view but you can see the "sausage like" swelling of the left foot. It's this swelling that is causing my main problem--I can't get the foot into my boots and I need the boots to support the ankle. Damn Catch-22. Side view, looking inward ...

Ostrich poop found here

I took these pictures last Fall while visiting the NC Zoo. On the left you can see what appears to be a nice polite ostrich just wandering around. This impression soon turns out to be false when her dowdy tail feathers raise up and reveal a puckered anus. Ewwww! If you look carefully, you can see that she's made a deposit on the ground. More ewwww! Feel free to click on the image to make them bigger. Details can make all the difference in these shots. In other matters, aren't those really bony legs they have? And couldn't they have a little more color?
