Raindrops on Roses...

Kinda makes you think of show tunes, huh?

But that's not the subject here. Roses, like the one over there on the left, are just the starting point. And no, whiskers on kittens isn't the next point. Get your mind off that song!

This rose adorns a bush that is growing on the side of my backyard shed. I took the picture the evening I'd gotten so wet and dirty while hiking. Since I was already soaked, I didn't mind wading through the wet grass to take pictures of wet flowers. They're so much prettier when they have drops of water on them.

These might be going a little too far though. Since it was still raining when I took the pictures, there were raindrops all over and maybe the effect was a little too pronounced. Raindrops might be one of those things best left as an accent not the main course.

This next picture was taken just a foot or so away from the rose.

While I think the flower portion is pretty with its faint blue or purplish color, this weed is vicious. Admittedly having thorns on the stalk of the vine isn't unusual, this plant also has big nasty thorns coming out of the leaves. Ouch! If you can't see this, click the picture to make it bigger and easier to see the thorns.

These two flowers are pretty yellows. They appear sunny natured despite all that nasty rain coming down. The one above is from a bush growing on the side of my back deck. The one below grows at the parking lot where I leave my car when I take the bus into work each morning.

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Oops. Sorry about that. It is difficult to keep that tune out of your mind. Damn viral song. This last picture is the first of my day lilies to bloom. You can see the front steps to my porch in the background.

My roses have been on my mind today. For some reason, one of the bushes out front is uprooted. Somehow, overnight, it got practically pulled from the ground. It's leaning over and you can see most of it's root system. I mentioned a few weeks ago that my onions out back have been mysteriously pulled, but I don't think a rodent could do this to a 4 foot rose bush...

Pretty pictures, Dave. I like them with raindrops on them too, but sometimes you need to shake a little of the rain off before you take the shot. (IMO)
Great pics!

I too seem to be frequently finding myself humming that tune, especially on these warm finally summer days. Love the blooms and the rain drops. So very lovely.

A bit more wet than with dew. I have some roses up too. It's rained almost every day for the past two weeks. Not today yet. Netchick?

I have that song running through my head too, not because of your delightful blog post, but because I went to see the stage version of The Sound of Music in Toronto last week.

At first THAT song popped in my head but was rapidly replaced by.. Raindrops keep falling on my head... because that is what happens when you take pictures while it is still raining.

I need some coffee.
