Chocolate House

I've been spending the evening reading--with a little chocolate to keep me company.


Earlier I made a chicken dish from some breasts that I bought Thursday and didn't want to spoil. I had 8 Romano tomatoes that were getting overly ripe so I chopped them up and tossed them into the pot with the sauteed chicken and a can of tomato paste, some diced bell pepper and onion and had a quasi chicken cacciatore dish as a result. Not great but it was edible. The chocolate I'm having with my reading--I love the nuggets 'cause you can unwrap them one-handed while reading--is a lot tastier than the chicken was.

Today, there were a lot of episodes of House on USA Network HD. From now on I want to watch them in semi-order so I just recorded them all. I've only watched about half the episodes that have aired in the past 4 years and would like to catch up by Xmas time.

There's 8 episodes I've not seen from the first season, 13 from the second season, 22 from the third season and only 2 left from season 4. I deleted all my episodes of Eureka from my hard drive so that opened up enough space to store 15 or 20 episodes of House. That way I can pick shows that will make sense with one another.

I watched the Pilot Episode of House yesterday and it was very heavy handed. The characters were pretty much complete right from the beginning but everything was just so in-your-face. No doubt when you're shooting a pilot you really have to push details hard, but having seen the pilot after watching around 40 regular season episodes it was like walking into a wall, the characterizations were so abrasive.

What's Eureka?

I decided I wanted to watch house, but I REALLY have to start at the beginning. The scheduling of episodes does seem a bit off though... I may have to look into the DVDs. We'll see...

You were supposed to be watching TAR tonight, Dave. {sigh}

I'm having enough trouble sticking with Heroes - finally watched the 2 hour premiere and decided they're going to have to do better to keep me.

TAR was exciting as always (thank you for turning me on to that show).

Have to stop at Target tonight for necessities and will stroll the chocolate aisle - I have a feeling some M&Ms will jump in my cart :) Since allergies (or a cold) have hit I need some medicinal chocolate to cheer me until I can arrange a journey East.

Nitroflex at home

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. The picture to the left is the pieces from the box, unboxed, and up in one of my upstairs bedrooms. For the most part it wasn't difficult to move it around though two pieces were heavy and a number of them were kinda long and bulky to be wandering about the house with. ankle update

S ince a few people object to seeing my feet --poor misdirected souls--I have the two pictures below hidden behind links. Behold them at your own risk! *evil laugh* Actually they're not scary though the first one is a little colorful. T he first picture shows my ankle and foot from the side, as labeled. You can see a lot of general edema of the entire foot. There's also a good bit of discoloration of the ankle area and to a lesser degree the top of the foot all the way down to the toes. The side view is a lot worse in this regard than the top view. T he second picture shows the two feet from the top so you can compare the somewhat normal looking right foot to the injured left foot. There's not much abnormal color on this view but you can see the "sausage like" swelling of the left foot. It's this swelling that is causing my main problem--I can't get the foot into my boots and I need the boots to support the ankle. Damn Catch-22. Side view, looking inward ...

Ostrich poop found here

I took these pictures last Fall while visiting the NC Zoo. On the left you can see what appears to be a nice polite ostrich just wandering around. This impression soon turns out to be false when her dowdy tail feathers raise up and reveal a puckered anus. Ewwww! If you look carefully, you can see that she's made a deposit on the ground. More ewwww! Feel free to click on the image to make them bigger. Details can make all the difference in these shots. In other matters, aren't those really bony legs they have? And couldn't they have a little more color?
