80s music
I was watching VH1 for a while today. They were playing one of those countdown shows across most of the afternoon and evening. This particular one was tracking the top 100 pop hits of the 1980s, 20 songs per hour.
I recorded from 80 up to #1 and ended up watching the first two of those shows, which would be from #80 up to #40. It's interesting what you remember. The song that had the most emotional impact was REO's song Keep on Loving You. Not a very good song, I admit, but every time I hear it I remember this girl I was sooo in-love with at the time, circa 1980. Unrequited, of course. Those are the ones that really stick to your soul music-wise.
Another interesting song was Gabriele Susanne Kerner (AKA Nena) and 99 Luftballons. I loved the English version of the song back then though the German language version got a lot more radio play. But on the show they were talking more about her unshaved armpits than they were about the song itself. LOL I have to admit it's a hot look--at least on her. Back then.
Speaking of sexy, the two hottest singers in that segment weren't anyone that I'd want to be seen in public with. Joan Jett cause' she always looked like she was about to kick your ass--and then laugh at you squirming about in pain. And George Michael for all the obvious reasons. They were both iconic in their appearance and music and so easy to sing along with. George Michael was mentioned for Faith but his song Father Figure is my favorite. It might appear in the top 40. Joan Jett was on there for I Love Rock and Roll and she sure can belt it out. Wow.
Sweet Dreams (are made of this) was an amazing song then and now. Annie Lennox's voice is just incredible. I can listen to her for hours at a time. Twisted Sister, on the other hand, only supplies one song to my mind--but a very interesting song. And video. Twisted is a good description. Like the title goes, we're not going to take it anymore. That song always reminds me of another metal anthem, Quiet Riot's Cum on Feel the Noize. While I'm not into metal, I really like both of those songs along with a few other standards like Enter Sandman and Stairway to Heaven.
Anyway... women with axillary hair. Interesting.

Armpit hair, not so much - but a nice soft pelt would be sensuous. Not hairy backs tho - yuck!
I remember poor Nen's armpits well. All the boys fancied her until she showed up on a popular music show here. All went well until she started to dance and rasied her arms! LOL! A prime example of cultural differences I think!
