Feeling lucky?

I watched an interesting movie on DVD tonight. Lucky Number Slevin. Has anyone else seen it? Here's the summary from IMDb: A case of mistaken identity lands Slevin (Josh Hartnett) into the middle of a war being plotted by two of the city's most rival crime bosses: The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley) and The Boss (Morgan Freeman). Slevin is under constant surveillance by relentless Detective Brikowski (Stanley Tucci) as well as the infamous assassin Goodkat (Bruce Willis) and finds himself having to hatch his own ingenious plot to get them before they get him.

As you can tell from the cast, there's a lot of great acting here. Yet. Somehow the entire thing came across as empty to me. Too much motivation, I guess. Not the acting, but in the prime moving element of the plot. I just can't see it playing out the way it did. As a result it seemed empty to me. I'll put the my reason in the first comment on here. I don't want to give away the plot element out in the open here. So don't look if you're likely to see the movie. The movie also has a lot of good dialog and some pretty interesting angst. But remember--empty.

Give the picture below a look. It pertains to yesterday's post about my camera and its 12X zoom. I was about 100 yards away from this duck when I took the picture of the peculiar looking redhead. I love that zoom! Of course, as usual, clicking on the photo will make it bigger. Kinda like magic!

I say the movie seems empty to me because the motivation to do the murders is too strong. There's apparently been about a 20 year delay in wrecking revenge. Why so long? It just seems to me if there's such a passion behind this series of events, then it would have happened sooner. And given all the dead bodies, with no money involved, there's a lot of passion.

Bodies. There must be something like 20. First the bookies. Then the kid. Then Nick. And then things really started rolling.

Lots of style here, and great acting and direction--but the premise is very shaky. For a revenge pic, I'd take Mel Gibson's movie, Payback, over this one. The plot's neurotic but logical.

I'm going through a phase where unless the violence or death in a film or show is storybook/fantasy violence/death, I don't want to see it. (This is not always a case).

I like the duck picture. Ducks are cool.

Actually I enjoyed this movie more than I did "Payback". I am not sure but I thought payback seemed more far fetched to me than someone who thought out a long winded way to ensure he exacted the perfect revenge. I guess it all depends on how we relate to the truely brilliantly deranged.

I have not seen any movies lately that really hold my attention. I tried to watch a few tonight and my mind wandered...not a good endorsement.

I actually went to a movie last week... Amazing Grace. Wonderful movie...

Other than that it is mostly Pixar animation or Harry Potter. I am truly boring when it comes to movies.

Nitroflex at home

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. The picture to the left is the pieces from the box, unboxed, and up in one of my upstairs bedrooms. For the most part it wasn't difficult to move it around though two pieces were heavy and a number of them were kinda long and bulky to be wandering about the house with. Surprisingly, this kit didn't require any extra tools. There were two allen keys and one combo wrench included in the boxes and that was all it took to put it together. ankle update

S ince a few people object to seeing my feet --poor misdirected souls--I have the two pictures below hidden behind links. Behold them at your own risk! *evil laugh* Actually they're not scary though the first one is a little colorful. T he first picture shows my ankle and foot from the side, as labeled. You can see a lot of general edema of the entire foot. There's also a good bit of discoloration of the ankle area and to a lesser degree the top of the foot all the way down to the toes. The side view is a lot worse in this regard than the top view. T he second picture shows the two feet from the top so you can compare the somewhat normal looking right foot to the injured left foot. There's not much abnormal color on this view but you can see the "sausage like" swelling of the left foot. It's this swelling that is causing my main problem--I can't get the foot into my boots and I need the boots to support the ankle. Damn Catch-22. Side view, looking inward ...

Ostrich poop found here

I took these pictures last Fall while visiting the NC Zoo. On the left you can see what appears to be a nice polite ostrich just wandering around. This impression soon turns out to be false when her dowdy tail feathers raise up and reveal a puckered anus. Ewwww! If you look carefully, you can see that she's made a deposit on the ground. More ewwww! Feel free to click on the image to make them bigger. Details can make all the difference in these shots. In other matters, aren't those really bony legs they have? And couldn't they have a little more color?
