Angela-Marie over at Rocks and Garbage has an interesting online site-game mentioned in a post. It's a site that searchs out how many people exist in the US with your first and last name.

If I run this with my first name being "David" I get the number above. 16. However if I run it with the first name of "Dave" then I get ZERO! So I guess it's very sensitive to variations in spelling and nicknames, etc. It's my last name that narrows things down since there's only 1,350 people--according to this site--that have my last name. Over 3 million have my first name--even more if you include the variation "dave".

So, how many people are there with your name out there? Inquiring minds want to know!

There are only FOUR people in the US with my name. Weird!!

Although, the "famous person with your last name" didn't actually name the famous person I know (Dick Vitale). It said Tony Vitale, and I have no idea who that is!

Hi. There are 623,935 peopel in the US with my first name but none with my last name. It would eb interesting to see what this would be in the UK as I know there are not many with my surname here.

Well this doesn't work.
I put in my daughter's name... Nyssa.
True it is unusual.
True you have to be a Dr. Who fan to know the name.... and I mean a Tom Baker, Dr. Who fan.
But, it said there were 0 in the US with her first name. She is in the US and there is actually another Nyssa at William and Mary. Also a website documenting Nyssa's around the world, many in the US.
So I doubt it when it says 13 for my first name and 3 using my middle name which I do use.

So, what's the deal?

Just a bit of fun, folks. I know there's nowhere near 1,350 people with my last name in this country. All those with my last name emigrated from a small island off of Denmark in 3 waves over the past 200 years. We're easy to track for that reason. I don't know an exact number but there's less than 400 of us here in the US and a like number in Europe.

I don't know what databases this site uses, but it's obvious it's not accurate. Just something to do. :-)

There are 0 people in the US with my name. My name is "relatively uncommon". And 99.9% people with the name Yael are female (funny that given it's a chicks name).

Funny, but I DO know other Carmis. They're mostly Italian women who have shortened their name from Carmela or something. But still...

Here from Michele's today, my friend, as I sit in a hotel lobby in Westminster, CO, just outside Denver. It's kinda bizarre writing from all the way over here.

Nitroflex at home

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. The picture to the left is the pieces from the box, unboxed, and up in one of my upstairs bedrooms. For the most part it wasn't difficult to move it around though two pieces were heavy and a number of them were kinda long and bulky to be wandering about the house with. Surprisingly, this kit didn't require any extra tools. There were two allen keys and one combo wrench included in the boxes and that was all it took to put it together. ankle update

S ince a few people object to seeing my feet --poor misdirected souls--I have the two pictures below hidden behind links. Behold them at your own risk! *evil laugh* Actually they're not scary though the first one is a little colorful. T he first picture shows my ankle and foot from the side, as labeled. You can see a lot of general edema of the entire foot. There's also a good bit of discoloration of the ankle area and to a lesser degree the top of the foot all the way down to the toes. The side view is a lot worse in this regard than the top view. T he second picture shows the two feet from the top so you can compare the somewhat normal looking right foot to the injured left foot. There's not much abnormal color on this view but you can see the "sausage like" swelling of the left foot. It's this swelling that is causing my main problem--I can't get the foot into my boots and I need the boots to support the ankle. Damn Catch-22. Side view, looking inward ...

Ostrich poop found here

I took these pictures last Fall while visiting the NC Zoo. On the left you can see what appears to be a nice polite ostrich just wandering around. This impression soon turns out to be false when her dowdy tail feathers raise up and reveal a puckered anus. Ewwww! If you look carefully, you can see that she's made a deposit on the ground. More ewwww! Feel free to click on the image to make them bigger. Details can make all the difference in these shots. In other matters, aren't those really bony legs they have? And couldn't they have a little more color?
