time for more bugs

It's time to look in on my backyard which is a haven for Ladybugs, like the one below...

My house is situated in a small subdivision in the middle of nowhere. This area is mostly small farms and cow pastures. In fact my house is in what used to be a pasture. I've let one small area of my backyard grow out and the wild flowers and native grasses in these pictures is the result.

In this picture we're looking under the dress of a ladybug. Their topside is so pretty you rarely see pictures of their naughty region. So-- being a cad-- I took just such a picture!

Here's one of a ladybug with a friend. The other bug looks a lot different. I wonder if her parents approve of this?
Maybe a spider or something mean and nasty like that next time...

I love ladybugs. I have a picture of a variant with an iridescent, partly transparent exoskeleton and I've seen one that was a metallic gold color. Very strange indeed. Great pictures by the way!!
Hello, (came over from bazza)

Oh, these pics are lovely...
I found a "red dot" this summer on one the leaf of one of my balcony plants, followed it for a few days... posted photos, up until it grew up and left.

Who is the little one with the yellow coat?

all the best

What perfect pictures! I've always enjoyed ladybugs. They were the only kind of bug that I could touch when I was a kid. Not that there are very many bugs NOW that I want to touch. lol

If you don't mind me asking... WLhat kind of camera are you using? I'm thinking about getting a better one.

I always loved Lady Bugs because they were just so darn cute... and then one went and bit me! Now I just look but don't touch ;)

Hope this goes through this time. Love the macro pictures of the ladybug. Michele sent me but blogger isn't cooperating today.

That's for sure, LDaisy. Blogger's been a real pain in the patootie today--but what's new about that? At least it's free.

I've never been bit by a ladybug, AgFab. What did you do to provoke it? LOL
Argh, I tried posting and it didn't "take."

Anyway, I'm here from Michele's.

My daughter saw a ladybug in a tree last Saturday and when I looked up, they were all over the branches. There must have been a dozen of them. Amazing.

I love ladybugs. We are in full Fall mode here. And, with the rain and wind we are going to get, the leaves will start coming down...

I miss ladybugs. Here in Texas, the fireants eat everything, included the horned toad. Enjoy them!

Looking under the dress of a ladybird? How rude! Hehe. I've not seen many about this year.

Enjoy the weekend! :)

A journey into the secret lives of ladybugs. I love these images...they're utterly breathtaking. Then again, we're used to that from your photographic mind!

I'm reminded of the movie "Bug's Life" which seeks to dispel the ladybug-as-cute-female myth. It always makes me smile.

I've always heard that lady bugs are a sign of good luck.

That, and the promise of a bad winter.

I prefer to go with the good luck thing, myself.

Nice pics. I had a dead ladybug in the back of my car for literally years. It was so gross, but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it. It just sad there behind the backseat, getting lighter every year.

I like the tough guy ladybug in A BUG'S LIFE.
