second chances

It's 1am here and I've watched a few of the tv shows that I've recorded. I was quite surprised that I liked the second episode of Heroes (NBC) a lot more than the first episode. The pacing was faster though I did feel that nearly a third of the show was a rehash of what had happened in the first show. I guess they didn't want to chance losing any audience members that hadn't see the first show. Frankly, having the first show summed up that way made it much better. It was way too slow and drawn out before--this should have been the first episode and use that debut show later in the season once you've already hooked the audience.

I'm still mulling over Elizabethtown. Tara, a youthful and lovely Canadian blogger, mentioned a few plot issues with Elizabethtown. Well, I tend to notice those things--here and there--and Elizabethtown was full of whoppers. Crowe is more about feelings and lovely but 2-dimensional portraits of women, he's not about attention to plot details. For example, would a young exec be put in charge of an account that could lose one billion? Or a shoe launch that could cost that much--and the company having no idea it was doomed? Has Crowe heard of test marketing? LOL Or a huge plane that has only one passenger on a coast-to-coast flight? Or how do you record 48+ hours of music and voiceover on CDs in less than a day? With recent pictures from 100s of miles away?

But I quibble here...

I watched the third episode of The Class tonight and it's just as dumb and I still like it. Go figure. Maybe I'm unusually receptive--I even liked How I met your Mom tonight and that one's been pretty weak for a while. Any opinions out there on The Amazing Race? I thought the first episode was the best one so far but it's been okay through the second and third. So far all the teams eliminated I didn't want cut--at least not yet--but that's how the cookie crumbles. There are a few teams that I really wish would scoot off into the sunset. Namely, the Coal Miner and his wife and the Dating Couple. So far I think my favorites are the two brothers and the male models...

This is a picture taken a few weeks ago of two ants cooperating in moving a small piece of cheese across my kitchen floor towards the dining room. I'd imagine they were planning on escaping somehow around or beneath my sidedoor that is off my laundry room.

I'm afraid they didn't make it. *a moment of silence please* And some weatherstripping was added to the door, I might add. Still, it was refreshing to see how well those insects were working together. Far better than seeing video of homeless people being attacked.

I was feeling kind of iffy about Heroes after the pilot, but this week was better paced, and I think once they've caught an audience and can do more story and less endless exposition, it will be really good.

Hiro rocks.

My favorite of the new shows this season has to be Studio 60, partly because it speaks to my liberal sensibilities, and partly because the combination of cast and writing are so watchable.

Studio 60 is very good. I watched last night's episode around 3am. I couldn't sleep. Around 5am I got up again and wached a DVD The Matador. And then came into work. :-(

I would love to watch Heros, the whole idea seems interesting. Alas, it's way too gory. Yek!

Amazing Race: I'm rooting for the brothers from San Francisco (much more representative of the Bay Area than the hippies from last season) and I'm starting to warm up to Team Zoolander. It always takes a few episodes before I can get familiar with all the teams and get into the show. The Bumpkins and the dysfunctional couple can go sooner vs. later. The gay couple probably won't win but they sure are fun to watch.

I am trying to watch the Amazing Race, but I wish it wasn't on Sunday. When sports events make it come on late, I have to switch over to another show at 9pm. Bah.

Jeez! You must be just a little tired! Elizabethtown will be watched after we get done w. LOST. And, I cannot imagine having to just watch one episode at a time. It will drive me CRAZY!

Get some sleep!

Agree about Amazing Race, and hoping the beauty queens go next.
Heroes is fascinating, if unnecessarily gorey.
And The Class ....we're watching ... I just like the characters. Maybe it's the actors' performances.

Here from Michele again.
I didn't quite understand the ending of the first episode of Heros and I think I missed the second one. Sometime it is supposed to be rebroadcast on either scifi or usa. That seems to be happening a lot this year... other cable channels are rebroadcasting network shows and no rhyme or reason behind it.

I have to say I am really liking The Class myself, its quirky and cute...with odd characters that u just have to like...
I really like Studio 60 aswell...hard to go wrong with that cast..its quick, fast, smart and funny. Hope it can hold up.
There are a few mentioned here that I haven't seen but no one has mentioned 6 Degrees...I am liking it so far...interesting how these individual stories are unfolding yet they are all related somehow, yet don't know it yet.
Great post,
Here via Michele's today.

I hardly see network TV anymore. We got cable and now it's all about The food Network and HGTV!

Now, about those ants... I love the photo - I also love that you photograph bugs. I am weird that way. If they are live and in my house, then they won't be that way for long (another moment of silence, please). My husband did, after all, vow to protect me when we got married and as far as I am concerned, that vow extends to bugs in my domain. However, I love to look at pictures of them. Pictures don't move or bite. And yours was a great example antuscooperatus.

Thanks for reminding me about Heroes. I watched the first episode, and loved it so much that I set up my timer for #2. Which I still haven't watched.

Off to correct that now. It's 1 a.m. and I can't sleep. Sigh...
