errands and such

I had misplaced my auto insurance renewal invoice and just found it yesterday--and it's about to expire--so today before work I rushed up to the agency and paid that. Nothing like a little panic to start off your day. LOL

By the time I got to my bus stop, there was a 15 minute wait before the next bus so I went into the shopping center to see where the DMV office was for renewing my driver's license. It expired a little while ago so it seemed a good idea to figure out where to go to get it renewed. Weirdly enough, there was only one person waiting so I went in. In a big surprise, the 15 minutes was just enough time to get the new license. Amazing. Last month I stopped at another office of the DMV and at that location the wait was over an hour--I just walked out as soon as I heard that. Now I'm glad I waited. :-)

At work I was mostly creating graphics for a Powerpoint presentation my boss is giving next week as well as some stuff for a paper we're submitting to PNAS in a week or two. Mostly I was just pulling info out of some data files and creating charts with them but I was doing a little Photoshopping also. It kept me busy, at least. Other than that, I was just doing some accounting--keeping our grants up to date. That's not so thrilling. Zzzzzzz.

Tomorrow I have a few tasks to do. I need to gather up all my garbage and make a run to the county landfill and then afterwards shoot up to a quarry and get a truckload of crushed granite for my landscaping in the side yard. My pickup is a compact so I can only handle 2/3 a ton and that's about enough for half the job. Since it's going to be so hot, I hope to get these errands, and cut some of my yard, done before noon. Wish me luck!

I need to renew my license at YOUR bureau...here in Ontario, I suspect I could pitch a tent while in line and no one would raise an eyebrow.

Your diligence inspires me, Utenzi. It's so hot here that I'm tempted to just sit in the house. But after reading your entry, I'll get my duff in gear.

Sounds like the day I'm having today! I have to create a presentation to give this Wednesday, put together some data for my boss' boss, and I've been inputting all of my financial info from January into Quicken.

Must be something in the stars this weekend... ;)

Nitroflex at home

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. The picture to the left is the pieces from the box, unboxed, and up in one of my upstairs bedrooms. For the most part it wasn't difficult to move it around though two pieces were heavy and a number of them were kinda long and bulky to be wandering about the house with. ankle update

S ince a few people object to seeing my feet --poor misdirected souls--I have the two pictures below hidden behind links. Behold them at your own risk! *evil laugh* Actually they're not scary though the first one is a little colorful. T he first picture shows my ankle and foot from the side, as labeled. You can see a lot of general edema of the entire foot. There's also a good bit of discoloration of the ankle area and to a lesser degree the top of the foot all the way down to the toes. The side view is a lot worse in this regard than the top view. T he second picture shows the two feet from the top so you can compare the somewhat normal looking right foot to the injured left foot. There's not much abnormal color on this view but you can see the "sausage like" swelling of the left foot. It's this swelling that is causing my main problem--I can't get the foot into my boots and I need the boots to support the ankle. Damn Catch-22. Side view, looking inward ...

Ostrich poop found here

I took these pictures last Fall while visiting the NC Zoo. On the left you can see what appears to be a nice polite ostrich just wandering around. This impression soon turns out to be false when her dowdy tail feathers raise up and reveal a puckered anus. Ewwww! If you look carefully, you can see that she's made a deposit on the ground. More ewwww! Feel free to click on the image to make them bigger. Details can make all the difference in these shots. In other matters, aren't those really bony legs they have? And couldn't they have a little more color?
