Rock Bitch

My tenant this week from Blog Explosion is Rock Bitch. Interesting name, no? She seems like the real-deal, folks. She's certainly a lot more hard core about rock music than I ever was. Even as a high school kid I wasn't into bands and their music like she is. Here's a paragraph from her description of herself:

I worship my iPod and view my car as a moving stereo…Classic Rock and Blues are my gig. The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Cream top my list of rock gods. Coco Taylor, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Taj Mahal…just a few of my blues gods. Let me throw some other favorites out…John Hiatt, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Savoy Brown, Aerosmith, Metallica…the list is endless. I am a true ROCK BITCH.

How's that for sticking to the great bands? And don't get the idea that she's a one way street here. She's got other interests also although not always pure. For one thing, she professes a passion for dirty martinis with fat ass olives--but vodka martinis! I don't know about the "fat-ass olives" but in some circles adding vodka to a martini is considered sacriledge. LOL

On a more serious note, Rock Bitch is in her late 30s and is studying Business Administration--a degree I also have--while working full time at a flooring company and doing a PT gig at a rock oriented radio station. She also had a brush with ovarian cancer. Since my boss is an oncology surgeon and my research is directed at breast cancer I focus on cancer a lot in my non-blogging life. Obviously Rock Bitch does also--but she had no choice in that.

Rock Bitch's favorite band is the Rolling Stones and the following are her favorite 5 songs by them:

1. Gimme Shelter
2. Sympathy For the Devil
3. Satisfaction
4. You Can’t Always Get What You Want
5. Brown Sugar

What do you think? Personally I'd put Sympathy for the Devil atop the list and have You Can't Always Get What You Want at number two. Every time I hear the second one it reminds me of the funeral scene in The Big Chill. I love that movie--and the soundtrack!

Rock Bitch's blog has a great design and it's so organized. Each post is in one or more catagories so you can pull up just the type of posts you want. And not surprising, given the name of her blog, the two most frequent posts are about bitching and rock and roll. Bitching has 35 posts listed and rock and roll has 18. At least we know which has priority in her blog, though I suspect the music is more important in her life. Then again, like Jeff Goldblum's character said in The Big Chill: I don't know anyone who could get through the day without two or three juicy rationalizations. They're more important than sex. And while that may seem like a non sequitur--I love the line and once I mentioned The Big Chill I just had to slip it in. Sorry!

Good morning, Utenzi. I don't know much about the kind of music you and she like; my tastes are to earlier rhythm and blues and jazz, but I do like bb king and the blues!

Michele sent me today.

I was listing to R&B yesterday and some jazz and scat. My girlfriend's taste runs in that direction and we were making a mix CD for her birthday party. Personally I go for bland rock music from the 50s thru 70s--especially smaltzy stuff.
No, I agree with the Bitch. Gimme Shelter is the greatest Stones song there is, and I'm not a huge fan. I like her list for the most part.
Here via Michele today.

There are great Stones songs there. 'Sympathy For The Devil' is a classic.

Yes, I have been to visit Rock Bitch and she does have an interesting blog! I'm not a huge Stones fan, although some of the early '80's stuff brings back fond memories of my college days.

Oh, Sympathy for the devil brings so many memories back! I would place it nr. 1 too. Now off to check this blog out. Kind of young to like the RS, I guess Mick Jagger and the boys have done a good job over the years.

I've got to be the only rock fan on the planet that detests Led Zeppelin. Thanks for the heads up - I think I'll check her out, though the only common ground I find is Ack Dack, but what can I say... I came of age with the Replacements and the punk rock school.

Side note... In all honesty, I didn't care for Reagan, either. What's funny about your comment was that back in the late eighties or so, Bazaar magazine listed Nancy Reagan as one of the 100 most beautiful women in America. I remember thinking, "ew."

Hi Utenzi, I discovered your blog through Coffee Crochet...I must admit I'm a huge rock fan. Aerosmith is playing locally and am I ever excited about seeing them! The first time I saw them was 31 years ago when I was 15! This time I'm taking my son who's 15. Must be a middle age thing.
All those Stone's songs are great but I tend to like the go-wild dance music over the ballads so I would put Satisfaction on the top of the list. :)
BTW, your blog rocks!

I love Rock Bitch. And I love the Stones. They were actually my first concert, and I'm 23! I can't believe Mick and the boys are still touring.

ok, i'll go over and check it out. I however, would put "Brown Sugar" on the top of that particular list. Hi from Micheles!
Just here on my own today Utenzi...and thanks for the lovely comment on my blog...
You are sure giving Rock Bitch a terrific send-off and well deserved at that! I am going to say Hi to her when I leave here...

When I read all the songs and bands I know how old I am...I know the names but not the songs!! "The Big Chill" I know, of course...My love of music is ever present but just never seemed to encompass much 'rock', at all..So, there you go...(lol)

Rock bitch likes my kinda music ;) Sympathy for the Devil is one of my all time favorites too.

Great choice for a renter Dave! Personally I would have "Paint it Black" in the top 5. Being a slightly younger generation, Sympathy for the Devil always reminds me of Interview with the Vampire lol

Utenzi,

Thanks for such an awesome right up and for allowing me to rent space here. Yes, I do indeed love the Rolling Stones. It was a difficult task making up a list of my top 40.

Thanks for sending everyone over...I'll be sure to make them all feel welcomed as only a Rock Bitch can ;)

Rock Bitch seems awesome. Great music choices. I miss the days of going to AC/DC concerts and being in fishnet and all black....not worried about being squashed or loosing my hearing because I hadn't turned into an old wimp yet! Sent via Michele today. Fun post.

Hello, Michelle, sent me. Rock Bitch "rocks". I love that music too. My favorite band "Black Sabath" and Im sorry if I am spelling the name incorrectly. The greatest rock ever were the 80"s.

Hello, Michele sent me.

I can't speak much for rock music; it's never been my thing. I'm one of those annoying pop music people (or even worse, Barry Manilow back in his hey-day). Or better yet, I really prefer contemporary Christian.

My taste is a bit different, although I love rock music. I'm more of a punk/new wave kinda girl. I like reggae a lot, too.

Michele sent me.
When I was here yesyterday I said I didn't know any of the songs...but that wasn't true..On further refection I of course know "Gimme Shelter" and "Satisfaction"...Maybe I'm not as old as I thought! (lol)

Here from Michele today Utenzi, my dear...

I really can't choose a favorite Stones song. Like them all. Rock Bitch sounds like she is a well-rounded character. As far as vodka martinis--live & let live when it comes to choice of alcohol.
