Favorite Movies
Childhood (1960s)
The Magnificent Seven: A movie I enjoyed as a child and as an adult. I must admit I don’t like 7 Samurai--just find it boring as Hell.
Animated Disney Movies: Since it was pre-video these were only viewed once in a great while. I don't like Disney movies anymore--they're too prejudiced against the 'cosmetically challenged'. Shrek is great because it ends the way it should-- unlike Disney films.
Teens (1970s):
A Little Romance: I saw this in college when I was 18. I fell in love with Diane Lane then and she’s still beautiful now! It’s a very sweet and romantic movie of 2 kids falling in love.
Annie Hall: One of the best movies ever. Especially if you’re neurotic! "What are you sad about? What did you want me to do? Capture 'em and rehabilitate 'em?"
Goodbye Girl: Very romantic and sweet. Dreyfuss was perfect and Mason a good (neurotic) foil. The slow way they worked into each other’s lives was well paced and realistic. Cute kid too.
Star Wars: A classic that holds up even with the old special effects. Too bad that Episode 1 turned out so bad!
The Sting: Perhaps the best grifting movie ever. "Luther said I could learn some things from you. I already know how to drink".
Monty Python and the Holy Grail: The ultimate nerd movie. Everyone needs to see it though many will regret it. “She turned me into a newt!”
20s (1980s):
Romancing the Stone: I saw this with a college girlfriend on her birthday. She had been celebrating with friends earlier and was drunk as a skunk. The movie was exceedingly good even if Bibi was a wee bit out of it. LOL "One hell of a morning has turned into a bitch of a day!"
Coca Cola Kid: I really liked this film though few people seem to have seen it. Eric Roberts does a good job as the protagonist and Greta Scacchi is...amazing. LOL Her acting is good too.
Highlander: Cult classic. The sequels sucked.
Tootsie: Great movie. The romantic element worked fine and that’s not something you say about Dustin Hoffman films very often.
An Officer & a Gentleman: One of those perfect romantic movies that women love. And I liked it too--to paraphrase the old Irish Spring commercials.
Die Hard: Perhaps the best action adventure film of the decade though I’m also partial to The Long Kiss Goodnight with Geena Davis.
Raiders of the Lost Ark: Redefined the action movie genre in an ode to the old serials of the 30s and 40s. This came out when I was in college and it along with The Big Chill were my favorite movies of those years (Superman & American Werewolf were runner ups).
30s (1990s):
Jerry Maguire: “You had me at Hello” He didn’t actually say “Hello” in that scene but the movie worked anyway! And need I mention Renée Zellweger?
Princess Bride: Perfect casting and acting. I could watch this once or twice every year of my life.
My Best Friend's Wedding: Julia Roberts as an absolute bitch. The role she was born to play--and she does it quite well. So many scenes are great it’s impossible to list them!
Groundhog Day: The ultimate redemption movie. It’s a Wonderful Life can’t hold a candle to this one (partly because it‘s sooo stupid).
Grosse Pointe Blank: Minnie Driver. *swoon* Cusack is a great actor--but Driver’s face can send me into a tizzy!
Terminator 2: “Give me your hand if you want to live” I’m a sucker for women with muscles. ;-)
Clueless: The best adaption of a Jane Austen novel. Pitch perfect.
Babe: The movie that Disney movies want to be like. “Move along there, ya... big buttheads!”
40s (now):
Shrek: Great movie. The sequel sucked.
Spiderman 2: A rare sequel that was even better than the first movie.
Almost Famous: One of my favorite movies. All the stars of the movie were wonderful and the story just sang to the heart.
From Before My Time:
Casa Blanca: Bergman was irresistible, Bogey letting her go was a triumph of the will.
Gigi: My absolute favorite movie as a kid.
Father Goose: Leslie Caron again? Pure coincidence?
Rear Window: IMHO Hitchcock’s best movie. Grace Kelly transcends the screen.
African Queen: One of the best movies ever made.

Have to agree with you on Minnie Driver, she's a beauty! Have you seen the film version of Oscar Wilde's play An Ideal Husband? She is stunning in that movie and plays a really fun character.

Jack, I love that scene in 'Princess Bride'. For me, Montoya is the best character in the movie. Unless it's the grandfather (Peter Falk) who's hilarious as he toys with his grandson's biases against romantic books.
