Sick Sleep

I've been sick the past few days. Might be that swine flu thing but more likely just a cold. Damn thing is lingering though and due to the H1N1 scare, I can't go into work during normal hours. But I've still got to treat the mice I'm working on so I go in for a couple of hours after 6pm. All in all it's great for me. I can do as much in 2 hours after 6pm as in 5 hours during the regular day. Why, you ask? Because nobody talks to me! Half the damn workday is wasted with gabby co-workers. Damn annoying if you ask me. It's almost worth having this cold just to get away from all that idle chit-chat. And, NO, that's not my GD cold talking either! LOL A side effect of this schedule is that I'm getting a lot more sleep than usual. I figure the past two days I've averaged 10 hours of sleep a day versus my typical 4. This is wonderful. I normally can't sleep this much even using sleeping meds. I just can't sleep well at night but it's easy peas...

Sick as a Bird

Image
I don't have a recent picture of a dog so I had to go with the fall back quote "sick as a bird." I know it's not as catchy but you go with what ya got. In this case I have a picture of two birds cuddling in my bird feeder this past weekend. As for me, I don't what what's going on. It doesn't feel like a cold or flu. Just headaches and the side effects of fever---sore muscles and twitchy bladder. It could be a lot worse but that doesn't make it feel any better to me! At least I was able to leave work a few hours early---and I was able to score 3 DVDs at the library as well. They're not due until Monday so that's probably what I'll be doing this weekend. Watching The Bank Job, The Lather Effect, and Kung Fu Panda. If I live that long...!

Officially Old

I think I had a post by this title earlier but if so, it bears repeating. This time the diagnosis of old-ness is due to my ophthalmologist telling me that I now need bifocals. The trouble spot where I can't focus is pretty far out still but no doubt as I get older it'll get closer and closer. *sigh* The infirmities of age. I've been rather quiet of late due to working longer hours than usual and being sick with a cold. Yesterday I was doing surgeries on mice for over 3 hours and thought I was going to die near the end. Yes, I'm being dramatic but I really was getting desperate for something to drink near the end. The end! Having a sore throat isn't good when you can't de-glove for a few hours. On the Christmas front, I've still not bought a single present. It's getting close to crunch time! I wonder if it's permissible to just hand out IOUs? Addendum : several people here have suggested getting the progressive (no lines) type lenses for my glas...

almost better

Image
For anyone that is interested out there, I'm almost over my cold. I've been to work both days this week as well as last Friday. Today was the first day that I've spent over 8 hours there though and the difference was telling. Once I got home I laid down--just for a minute!--when I got home at 6pm and the next thing I knew the phone ringing woke me up at 7pm. 10 minutes or so on the phone, during which I fell asleep momentarily twice, and then back to sleep until 11pm! Man, that's as much sleep as I usually get in a full night and it's not even midnight yet. Damn. As for these pictures, the one above is for people who've seen my house. Clear counter space isn't something I'm known for. This is proof that my clutter-free project is showing results! The second picture is my breakfast from Tuesday morning. People who know me realize that "breakfast" isn't a work normally in my vocabulary. For some odd reason I woke up this morning at 6am and ...

I'm Friggin' Dying

In sensitivity to those who really ARE dying, I have to admit here I'm just being a weenie about a cold. I started my symptoms yesterday around noon but thought it was just my normal sinus problems. Around 3am I was awakened, literally, to the possibility it was more serious by 4+ hours of fever that had me shivering even under all my blankets and down comforter. I like to be warm, what's it to you?! This next section is from the The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas' website: As temperatures dip, cold season starts. What do you do to fight the fever, sneezing and runny nose? Because there’s still no comprehensive cure for the common cold, we still just have to treat the symptoms. Over-the-counter medications can help you deal with the congestion, sneezing and fever that come with colds. One thing you shouldn’t do, according to doctors at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, is rely on an old piece of folklore. “Feed a cold, starve a fever” ha...

Bad ole Weekend

Image
This was a bad weekend. I was invited to lunch and dinner on Saturday and wasn't able to do either 'cause I was just feeling too sick. And I also didn't want to go--I tend to be antisocial, you see--but the point here is my being sick. So stop getting me sidetracked, people. I was also supposed to go hiking on Sunday and didn't do that either. In fact I never even got my mail this weekend and that's just at the end of my driveway. The furthest afield I went all weekend was my back deck to feed the birds. They rely on me, y'know ? See this guy? He's got no wings. If it wasn't for me he'd just be skin and bones. And feathers, I guess. Poor waif would be starving to death... Actually.... he's got wings. As you can see in this picture, it was just the angle the first picture was taken at. He looked wingless. And the feeding thing? I think they actually like eating bugs more. It's just that the seed I put out is really easy to get. I guess it...

bad weekend

*whew* This has been a bad weekend for me. I've been kinda sorta sick the whole time. I don't know if it's a mild cold or really bad allergies (my girlfriend got another cat--this makes 4!--so I might be reacting to it) but in either case I just don't feel good. As a result I've been doing a lot of sleeping and reading but not much else. Ren and I replaced a wall switch that had stopped working --it controls the fluroescent lights in the kitchen-- but that's the only project we bothered with. I only watched half the UNC / Florida State game 'cause I was so tired that I kept falling asleep. Sad. UNC won the game (84 v 58) and I really wish I'd seen more of it. Zzzzzzzz...
