baby, it's hot outside

A little play on words there. The classic song "Baby, it's Cold Outside" was by Frank Loesser with lyrics from Johnny Mercer and it was published in 1948. I love a recent version of it as sung by Vanessa Williams though with her, I suspect it should be subtitled "..but it's damn hot here inside with you". That woman sizzles. Anyway, back to me (Me! Me! Me!) and my travails with my air conditioning: it's damn hot outside but it's only 82 inside and the temperature is dropping!

My A/C is fixed and I am so much more comfortable already. The repair fellow arrived at 1:15pm and by 2pm he was gone with me being $80 something poorer. I can't wait for it to get back down to the 76 I usually keep it at...but I suspect for the next day or so I might splurge and keep it at 74 just to recover from all that hot weather! It'll be so much easier to sleep now.

The problem turned out to be a blown fuse in the part of the A/C system which is under the house. Presumably something caused the fuse to blow, but the repairman couldn't find any wires that weren't properly connected so I can only cross my fingers and hope it doesn't happen again soon. I had lots of problems like this the first year I owned the house, and I really don't want those days to return! I was without heat nearly half that first winter--and it was damn cold!

I saw Superman Returns on Sunday and read a few books over the weekend. I'll probably post something about them on Tuesday. In the meantime, Happy 4th of July to all of those in the USA and happy World Cup to those of the soccer persuasion! Germany is up against Italy and it looks to be a great match. I think Germany will take it; they're playing great.

Happy 4th to you, as well, and congrats on the return of A/C. It's weird. We never had it in California, but here in Texas we can't survive without it.

Dave, i am laughing so much, that i'm crying! I just read your review over at "I talk too much"! OMG, you got the lot...the boot, the fish, the shortbus,a kick in the arse,you got blown up and about 50 smacks!
hehehehehehe, and to think, i was worried what i'd get! I don't think i have to worry at all :o)

Delayed Happy 4th of July!
And too bad Germany did not make it. And so close to the penalty shootout on top of that. Man, both teams played so fine, the 2:0 wasn't deserved. Although 25% of me did win last night...my grandpa is Italian. Anyhow, now pressing my thumbs for Zidane and our neighboring country France. :)

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. The picture to the left is the pieces from the box, unboxed, and up in one of my upstairs bedrooms. For the most part it wasn't difficult to move it around though two pieces were heavy and a number of them were kinda long and bulky to be wandering about the house with. Yep, that's one of those damn blood suckers. Renee's revenge on my neglecting her feelings, no doubt. We guys just have it so tough! LOL This here is a picture of my ankle and while it's not very obvious, I guess, there's a bunch of flea bites on there. Itches a bit, dammit. The annoying part is that the damn fleas can't use my blood--fleas are mostly species specific and don't have the proper enzymes to make meals out of blood from other critters--so they're not getting anything out of biting me. It's just frustration and starvation driving their biting. Well, I guess the real annoying part is the bites themselves, but I wanted to seem a little sensitive there for a moment. But no more of that. Kill the fleas! While most of the bites are on my ankles and calves, there's an occasional bite up higher like these 4 on my thigh. They're kinda hard to see through the hair but I wasn't able to focus on the skin with all the hair in the way. Sorry.

ankles: the sequel

I've heard rumors that one post about my sprained ankle wasn't enough so here's more pictures to satisfy a public hungry for swollen flesh... This was taken the morning after I sprained the ankle. There's starting to be a black and blue mark from the blood vessels leaking At this point the swelling is still very localized to the lateral side of the left ankle and presumably that's the tendon that was affected (very likely since I really screwed it up 15 years ago and it's got extra play in it) In this picture, taken on Sunday evening about 25 hours after the injury, you can see the edema, or swelling, has spread out over the top and entire lateral side of the foot. There's also more evidence of hematoma at the skin above the metatarsals. At the same time, there's still significant swelling at the original site to the point that it totally eclipses the left ankle.
