Sick as a Squirrel

This concerns a tree that sits behind my parent's rear deck. It's the tree in the middle of the picture, around 50 feet off of the ground. The exact location is kinda hard to see in this picture but if we go a mite closer...

12X, to be exact, we see a pair of squirrels. Eastern Gray, in fact. And they seem to be squirrels that are recovering from one hell of a hangover. Do squirrels have spring break just like college students? If so, these two look like they've had one serious bender.

Unfortunately it wasn't something that light and frivolous. I checked back several times over the course of 4 hours and the one squirrel never moved more than a few inches. I think that's one very sick squirrel. Poor squirrel.

Another possibility is that it's preggers. According to Wiki, the first litter is born in February to March. I hope babies and not dying is at hand here.

He (or she) doesn't look very good... perhaps overdosed on nuts? I have seen a lot of little holes in the yard the last few weeks.. they are digging up their stash. Or, perhaps SHE is about to give birth and is currently cursing that blasted male... though I can't figure out why he would be there with her at first... trying to share the pain?
I have seen squirrels get all stretched out like that in the sun and really relax for hours. It looks like that one found a nice patch of sunlight. :-)

Awwwww...I'm touched by your concern for the furry creatures! Is it only CATS you want to barbeque?

My best wishes for the squirrel.

I think squirrels would be better barbequed than cats (herbivore vs carnivore)but everyone has different tastes...

I have no problem with squirrel stew or BBQ but it's a lot of work for so little meat. Cats are a lot more time efficient and most of them are kinda fat so they self-baste. It's just a matter of using time effectively.

maybe too much fooling around? It is spring....sort of. Our squirrels are madly chasing each other and the end result of who gets caught will be a new batch of squirrelings.
