ants and worms

A spectacle of nature at its most savage. The post-rain drama of worms versus ants has another chapter.

If you want greater detail, just click on another picture. If you're queasy at the thought of insect on invertebrate carnage, then you'd best hit your "back" button on your browser post-haste!

There were two worms involved in this. The one to the left and one below. Sights like this aren't for the faint of heart so I'll understand if you flee.

I mainly put these up because Carmi commented yesterday that he liked looking at the small world of insects via the macro setting of a camera. So here's another glimpse but a little less pastoral. Of course ants probably have a different take on the drama. For them it's lunch!

This is a picture of the second worm to meet the mean old ants. This one didn't do any better than the one up above.

Below you can see the whole tableau and how both worms met with diaster within a foot of one another. Tragic.

I took all these pictures to try to capture the worms so the ants didn't get a perfect focus. Before it rains again--I hear thunder out there now--I'm going to use the flash and try to get real good high res in-focus shots of the ants. Although I suspect not many people really want to see them. *sigh* Insects are so interesting!

This is SO cool! Talk about the circle of life...this is most definitely it, in its most stark and in-your-face form.

I know a lot of folks are squeamish when they look at stuff like this. But such is the nature of the world we live in. Heck, such is the nature of humanity itself. Sometimes, you just need to lean in for a closer look at something you've never seen before.

I love this...it's an otherwise-unseen drama, and one well worth memorializing as you have.

What little things we miss if we don't take time to stop and see the details of everyday life. Here from Michele's.

Well, well, isn't that fascinating! I don't even know what to say about that, except that it's not as gross as it looks!

Hope you're having a great day. Michele sent me!

See, now despite the fact that I couldn't actually look closely at the images without invoking the gag reflex, I have to say that it's better than the film I was watching. ;)

Seriously, excellent photography per usual. And a reminder that even the littlest thing in our midst can be worth taking note of.

Michele sent me over to say hi again.
