ice storm pics

These are a few pictures I took 2 years back of an ice storm that hit the Raleigh-Durham area of NC. It took out power for the area for a couple of days in some areas and over a week in others. I was without power for 6 days but it wasn't all that bad for me because they got power back at work on the second day and I mostly stayed there that week.

I'm posting these in sympathy for my parents that have just endured the same sort of thing in SC. They have their power on now but much of the area was without power for 3-7 days. Just before Christmas, it was. The stores must have been going crazy! More than half of them weren't able to be open during that critical week.

A tree down on some cars in the parking lot of the apartment complex I was living in at that time.

The Old Well at UNC. A landmark of sorts.

A bench with ice I really liked the way the ice looked on the trees in the background.

Ice storms are beautiful when viewed from the warmth of home via computer, don't you think? :)

Lovely images. Hope your parents are okay.

Beautiful pictures, but that sure is scary weather! I'd rather have a foot or two of snow than even a little bit of that ice. (I turfed it pretty good in my own driveway the other day. It hurt my tush AND my pride!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! :-)

I completely feel for your parents - we seem to end up with the worst ice storms in Missouri here where I live, and we get them pretty much every year. But the pictures are beautiful, especially of the bench. Isn't it amazing how something so destructive can be so beautiful??

Hi utenzi - your post reminded me of when we had a powercut here a few years back, and it hit the supermarket (no tills or anything!). Staff were given calculators and manual credit card rollers, and produce prices were estimated.
That was a fun shopping trip. Never repeated though, they have an independent generator now :-)

Happy New Year, my dear!

btw - new memory on my blog [wink]

Did you go to UNC? Such a beautiful campus and Chapel Hill is a great outpost of civilization in a very odd state. I lived in APEX, the peak of good living, for a couple of years. Gag me.

Yikes - quite some damages, but the pictures are still pretty. Haven't seen ice like that since moving 14 years ago to the Desert.
Have a blessed 2006!
