mist in the morning

This is the view from my parent's back yard down to the lake.

As you can tell from the mist, it was quite a cold morning. I like that type of day best since it allows for really nice pictures.

The hint of sun rising soon lights up the mist but leaves dark shadows on the shorelines. The overall effect can be breathtaking.

I just wish I had a better camera since not being able to control my f-stop directly really limited some of my photos.

The only downside to this is that you get very cold if you're on shore and it's even worse when you're out on the water either on a boat or in a kayak.

This picture was taken from in my kayak while the bow was bobbing just short of the shore.

I wanted to catch the mist leaving the mouth of an inlet where the water hadn't been warmed yet by the sun. The warmer water of the main lake was causing the air over it to rise thus pulling the misty air out of the inlets. Behind me, on the main lake, the air was perfectly clear.

Truly beautiful photo's Utenzi...Breathtaking, actually. I'd like to see what you can do with a better camera! It can't get better than these two pictures! All I can say is Thank You!

I'm here again tonight, just before Sunday ends, from Michele!

Thanks for coming to my blog a few weeks ago, Utenzi. As it turns out, you were right, I was over-reacting (about the kids in my neighbor's yard). And I'm SO glad you were!

You have some gorgeous pictures on here. I see you all the time at Michele's place, I'm sure we'll bump into each other again.

Peace.

Oooh nice photos. I say you don't have to worry about your f-stop as they turned out perfectly! In fact, I made the second one my desktop background here at work. I think it's cute that I can see part of your kayak in the bottom left. The mist is so very haunting. Great catch!

Is the reason you couldn't change your f-stop because you don't bring your good camera with you out in the water? I have several nice cameras, but I'm weird because when I go on vacations I bring my little digital camera that's pretty much totally automatic, which is good in some cases, but in other scenarios I like to have total control.

Hey Utenzi!

I love that low lying transparent mist. Not only is it easier to drive in than peasoup fog, it's also prettier! Reminds me of fairytales and stuff :)

Thanks everyone. There really wasn't anything special about me taking the pictures other than to be willing to brave the cold. The conditions were so perfect that anyone could have taken wonderful pictures with any camera at all. It was just breathtakingly beautiful that early morn.
