condiments

Here's a slightly odd topic. Condiments. What do you like to use--and what do you put it on?

I love hashbrowns but only when made a certain way. I HATE it when they're too browned. Supposedly when you caramelize a food it gets sweet, but I perceive the browned section as tasting burnt--and that's NASTY! I don't even like toast if it's dark. For me, the best place for hashbrowns is Waffle House.

On those hashbrowns I like lots of ketchup! Lots, and lots.

Another favorite of mine is hushpuppies and with those I like butter with some honey in it. Not what I'd call real honeybutter because that's too sweet to go with hushpuppies which are mostly cornbread, but just a taste of honey in the butter.

And with chicken fingers I love honey mustard. Especially the kind that is sold by Texas Pete, which is made by TW Garner just a few miles from here in Winston-Salem, NC. I love their mild version. Mmmmm.

So what do you like on your plate?

Condiments??? Hmmmm....

Mustard on a hot dog on occasion. Never mustard (or mustard flavored) on anything else. Never mayonnaisse. Never relish -- I hate sweet pickles. I like sour pickles though. I like ketchup with french fries -- not on them, just to dip them in. I like cocktail sauce with seafood -- never tartar sauce. Chicken is sauceless, but occassionally I'll sprinkle some lemon on it.

I can't think of anything else...

Mustard is about the only flavouring I like, except salt & vinegar.

Wow, that's educational. I've never heard of hushpuppies (other than the comfy nurses shoes). Have you had beaver's tails? (a flat pastry about 6" x 12", very thin and sprinkled with orange juice and brwon sugar)

Pearl, that's a new one on me. I'd not heard of Beaver Tails before. They sound pretty good, depending on the pastry base.

Well, I love mustard on hot dogs. I'm not so big on ketchup. I do like mayo.

OK, now I'm hungry.

Straight mustard is too strong a taste for me, Karen. My girlfriend loves it also--and pepper. I can't do either of those.

Teresa, we definitely do condiments different! I like only sweet relish and avoid sour pickles like the plague. And it's ketchup over mustard everyday!

Hushpuppies were not on my menu, now I have at least seen them! Balsamic vinegar with my salad. Alternative :vinaigrette with mustard. Lots of lemon juice if I have fish (seldom). Low-cal mayo for a club sandwich. You will never find ketchup on my plate. Bon appetit!

Great post, I like butter on my hushpuppies also. I love Texas Pete sauces. I like to mix honey mustard and hot sauce on my chicken strips. And I love bbq sauce and mayo on my french fries.

I'm a big fan of Mayo. I love mayo on hot dogs and hamburgers. Its even good on baked potatoes (as long as you don't use too much and you mush it all in good.)

Ranch dressing. There's not many things that Ranch isn't good with. Fries, as veggie dip, pizza, etc.

I'm also a huge hot mustard fan.

Hate mayo, only slightly tolerant of ketchup, mustard good on nearly everything, lots of pepper and salt (shouldn't). I like cinnamon and or ginger on fruit and cereals.

Hushpuppies are good plain or with real butter - no honey - too sweet.

I'm pretty much a mustard person. THe brown kind, not the yellow . Michelle sent me.

Utenzi, this is a brutal post for a guy on a supposed diet. I am a big fan of ranch dressing on nearly everything. I especially like Chicken fingers and fried mozzarella sticks. Any good bar will have some of both. Now I got to go get some carrot sticks. Argghh. Visiting from Michele's today.

I love tomato sauce... It's ketchup but different. :o)
Yes, I do own 2% of you my dear. Unfortunately that was all I could afford. :o( But I'll keep buying as I earn more money, and soon I'll own you baby!!! :o) I did notice that you own 20% of me! Hey big spender. ;o)

Baby, baby--you're worth every penny. LOL

Your shares weren't all that expensive but I see lots of potential in you so I went for 1,000 shares. You've doubled since I bought them--but I think that was mainly from the upward pressure my buy order put on your stock, Yaeli.

He-he. I own 20% of hot Yaeli. Too bad it's only on Blogshares. Damn.

K Jones, I've been amazed at how many people use Ranch Dressing as a condiment. I've not only never done it myself, I've never noticed anyone doing it before. I guess I'd best open my eyes!

Ketchup. I love ketchup on my ketchup. I eat it on my homefries like you...I eat it on eggs, on my meatloaf...

I like pickle relish in my tuna, along with hot sauce.

Be sure not to order hushpuppies in the UK, as you'll find the pair of comfortable Leather Shoes you receive will be very tough however many condiments you use :o)

Wasabi or extra hot horseradish or Chinese hot mustard or Texas Pete's vinegar and hot peppers for me please. Too hot is never an issue with me.
Anonymous said…
Oh man, you're making me hungry.
Wasabi on fish...Mustard on hot dogs...tarter sauce on fish...mustard and mayo on Hamburgers...Catsup on hushpuppies...Ranch dressing on chicken fingers...Wine vinegar and olive oil on salad...Butter on my grits....butter and cinnimon on oatmeal....any number of combinations out there....Mustard is a staple in our house.

I like Spicy A-1 on my hamburgers, Heinz catsup on my fries, and I am with you on the hushpuppy/butter thing. Chix fingers with sweet & sour sauce. Good post!

Mmmm...I like an orange marmelade, horseradish and mustard dip for shrimp. So good. And ranch dressing for french fries. Years ago I worked in a pizza restaurant and there was a trend there to dip pizza in ranch.

I'm not a hushpuppies or a hashbrowns kinda gal.

I love homefries though, but they can't be to big. And they need to be little crisp. Ketchup is a must, but I like it on the side to dip and not on top.
