Blogging counters

The first new show of the season that I was going to watch was on tonight. Bones. My girlfriend wasn't impressed with it but I've not seen it yet. I might watch it a little later tonight. Instead I was fooling with my Blog Template. It seems that my counter, which I had through Blog Patrol, just wasn't working right and it was pissing me off. It might have just been a temporary thing but I couldn't even log in to check on things. So I switched over to Sitemeter. Of course I lost all my statistics but I set my counter to the same hit number so that didn't change. I've still got the javascript for Blog Patrol in my template but it's commented out.

This leads to a question. What counter do you use, if any, and are you happy with it?

So far I like Sitemeter a lot more than Blog Patrol. It's got a very nice analysis section, especially for a freebie.

I don't get a lot of hits. Typically 25-40 a day during the week and if I'm playing the Weekend Meet&Greet on Michele's site it'll jump up to around 60-70 hits a day. So for that type of volume I'm definitely sticking to free counters.

Definitely free; I never pay for anything I can get for free!

I definitely like them, Judy. Thanks for the suggestion. I might put a counter from each until I decide which one I like better.

And I'm not sure about this flirting thing--aren't you married? And what's up with the assumption I'm free! Believe me--anyone involved with me always pays in some way. LOL

I use statcounter. There is a free version. It tells you how many hits, page loads, new vs returning visiters. Tells you what pages on your site they are entering and leaving. What site they came from. And lots of other stuff. Kinda fun to check out when you get bored hehe.

And how much do they pay to be involved with ya? hehe

That's two so far for Statcounter. Sounds pretty good, Judy and -E.

The cost is purely emotional and it's just not pretty. I seem to be a bad influence. :-(

I've got sitemeter and I find it really good. It e-mails me stats every week. I don't quite get the whole analysis bit but it's nice to have it there for when I get bored and fancy trying to make sense of it all!

It's quality not quantity, dear! And you've got STAR QUALITY! :-)

I didn't watch Bones. I didn't know if I was going to like it or not. I just waited until it was over so that I could watch House M.D., now that's a good show.

No, my name is Gina. Denny had a memory lapse I think.

Star quality, Diane? I think you're hitting those martinis too hard. Just a science geek here struggling into middle age.

Poor Denny. I hate using the wrong name, Gina, so I'm glad he said "Carla" and not I. Bones was really, really bad. At least for me. I doubt I'll ever bother with it again. Too bad tho--the books are pretty good, and the author is the producer of the show.

I depend on the built in Typepad counter, but really, I've never gotten into counting the hits---I WANT COMMENTS!
I'm gonna watch Bones as well.

True, Maria. I admit I visit your blog either every day or every other day but rarely leave comments. Your photos are beautiful, sometimes breathtakingly so, but after I say they're beautiful a few times, I start to feel like I'm repeating myself. Don't you get tired of seeing the same compliments???

I saw a porno call "Bones" on Cinemax.

Jack, Jack, Jack.... wrong "Bones"

I agree it irritating when the things we add to jazz our sites fall over. I use extreme tracking which is a good free statistics system suited also to my rather modest number of daily hits (and also able to explain the sources of access)

Reciprocating from Michele.

I use stat counter. I love it, it works much better than site meter, which I also have. It's free too. :-)

I finally got off my ass and installed the Stat Counter javascript also as was suggested by Judy, -E, and Indigo. I've got it set to display pageloads whereas the Sitemeter is displaying unique visits. Eventually I'll disable one or the other. Thanks everyone!

At first I used Sitemeter, but I really prefer Stat Counter

Great stats, very usable, and free unless you upgrade, which is'nt necessary.

I also use sitemeter. I like the referals option on the left sidebar of the main page, so I can see how people are "finding" me. Also I have Extreme Tracker (the little purple globe at the end of my sidebar) that shows all of the countries of visitors. Since it was installed, some 65ish countries have visited Home Fires. Crazy huh?

Statcounter. By far the best I've found for free. :)

Thanks for visiting me via Michele!
