Candy

I made a run last night to Wal-mart around 8pm. There were a few items I needed and the gas station near there has lower prices and my tank was near empty. It gave me something to do while waiting for Life to come on at 10pm.

Unfortunately I was seduced by the dark side once I entered the store. Chocolate specifically and candy in general. I just wasn't able to withstand that powerful siren call of sugar.

Just look at what I got! Talk about a potential sugar rush. And some nice prices too.

Those Hershey bars are 8 ounces, not the typical 5 ounces and Wally World has reduced the price recently to $1.25. That's only $2.50 a pound! I bought 8 but I suspect before the week is over a few more will find their way into my candy storage area. Like 20 or 30. *shiver* I don't like chocolate all the time but when I go through a chocolate phase--I can eat a pound everyday for a week or so.

Food Lion had a 2 for 1 sale on the 5 ounce bars last week and I picked up 6 and went through them in 2 days. Mmmm.

And check out this new variety of Hershey Kiss. Have you seen this flavor before?

I'd seen the Cherry Cordials before, and even posted about them, but I've not seen the Toffee Crunch flavor before now. I've not tried them yet but probably will in the next day or so. I want to try them before I drive by a Wal-mart again. If they're good I'll want to buy more!

And getting back to television, those two episodes of Life this week were pretty good. That's a nice way to leave the series going into the holiday break. As for Dirty Sexy Money---they really ended this week's episode with a bit of a shocker. Talk about blatant manipulation. *whew*

MSNBC has an article about men's health and #5 is "Indulge your chocolate craving". They suggest eating two 25 calorie Hershey's Kisses daily to cut risk of heart disease by half. Looks like you're on your way to living forever!

I have like 4 episodes of Life to watch - I am not cool with this multiple episodes per week thing, I have a hard enough time keeping up with one per week!! I know that after this week, most everything will be on a break for the holiday, but at this rate, I will not get caught back up before the new stuff gets started - gee this school work thing really sucks, it is messing up my plans for what'e really important... TV!!

I have not tried the toffee crunch kisses yet.

My office recently inhaled 3 pounds of the candy cane kisses. Within about 30 minutes or so.

I love the cordials, but prefer other brands instead.

Can you even shut the door on your huge candy hutch?? My god! I have never known someone to like sugary stuff as much as you do! Is it a substitute for something far more fun?

Went to Wally World myself this evening and wouldn't you know it.. that Butterfinger bar and that box of chocolate covered cherries just jumped right into my basket all by themselves.....;)

Nitroflex at home

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. The picture to the left is the pieces from the box, unboxed, and up in one of my upstairs bedrooms. dogs and cancer

Like the old commercials for Fruit Loops, a Kelloggs' breakfast cereal , would say: "A nose, it always knows". While that commercial was referring to Toucan Sam, I'm just using this as a lead in to talk about how sensitive dog noses are and how they can be used, perhaps, to detect cancer. There have been a number of mentions of this in the media recently. Here's two items from CBC news this year. One story that ran on 60 Minutes and another from the Early Show . Both of these stories refer to a study run by Dr. Bob Gordon of the Scripts Clinic in La Jolla which used urine samples of cancer patients and healthy people to determine how well dogs could detect differences in odor between the two. That study resulted in the conclusion that a trained dog could detect cancer to a degree that was 3 times greater than could be accounted for by mere chance. Pretty good but not great. ankle update

S ince a few people object to seeing my feet --poor misdirected souls--I have the two pictures below hidden behind links. Behold them at your own risk! *evil laugh* Actually they're not scary though the first one is a little colorful. T he first picture shows my ankle and foot from the side, as labeled. You can see a lot of general edema of the entire foot. There's also a good bit of discoloration of the ankle area and to a lesser degree the top of the foot all the way down to the toes. The side view is a lot worse in this regard than the top view. T he second picture shows the two feet from the top so you can compare the somewhat normal looking right foot to the injured left foot. There's not much abnormal color on this view but you can see the "sausage like" swelling of the left foot. It's this swelling that is causing my main problem--I can't get the foot into my boots and I need the boots to support the ankle. Damn Catch-22. Side view, looking inward ...
