IBS

I had a comment on a post the other day from a person purportedly at an Ad Agency with an offer of a free IBS product from Proctor and Gamble. Of course the first thing you think with a comment like that is that it's Blog Spam. However in this case the comment seemed legit since the Email address wasn't hijacked and it was to a legitimate Ad Agency (Bridge Worldwide) with P&G as a client.

Anyway, the offer was for a 2-month supply of Align, which is a daily probiotic supplement that helps build and maintain a strong and healthy digestive system. Is this a gimmick or a way to use blogs as an aid to marketing? I don't know but I Emailed the PR person back and I'll see what happens. In any case, it'd be a great way to try out Align and see if it helps with my symptoms. Who knows--maybe I'd even be able to eat ice cream without cramps and fast panicy runs to the bathroom.

According to the website that P&G maintains for Align, a balance of good bacteria ("probiotics") is critical for healthy digestion. An imbalance of these probiotics can lead to a variety of episodic digestive upsets, such as constipation, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, urgency, gas, and bloating. Adding Bifantis, the probiotic ingredient in Align, to your diet once a day balances your system to provide a natural defense against these episodes of digestive upsets that can disrupt your lifestyle.

That sounds like heaven to me. If it works!

In the UK we are swamped with these probiotic 'miracles'...some companies have even made up Latin sounding names for their 'secret ingredients'....

I am highly sceptical, although MB swears by the probiotic drink he has every day.

Michele sent me to see how Utenzi is today :-)

I haven't got a clue about probiotics Utenzi but I wish you luck!
If you're sensitive to dairy then don't take the Probiotic drinks wihout there being a big "Dairy Free" notice across it. Last week was the 1st time I'd managed to find dairy free probiotic drinks. They don't work miracles, but my specialist told me probiotics help (as long as they're dairy free!).

you can get probiotics at nutrition stores....not sure how you feel about that, but I say worth a shot to help with the health issues. You have to keep your strength up!!!!

Probiotics is a fancy new word for adding the good bacteria to your system - yoghurt has been promoted for this purpose for quite a few years now, especially for preventing yeast infections when you are taking antibiotics. Of course if you are sensitive to dairy, yogurt might not work. If this turns out to be genuine, I'd go for it - after all, if it's free, it can't hurt to try it.

So funny I'd catch this post of yours about probiotics. I've been studying about them lately. There is a lot of controversy over their inclusion of FOS. If you google FOS and Probiotics, you'll find the whole controversy. But, I thought I'd point that out because the PB's that had manufactured FOS really made my stomach nauseous.

I hope you'll let us know about this product and if you have success with it, Dave. I have IBS too, and while mine seems to be under control right now, there is always room for a good product to tame it.

We have lots of pro-biotic yoghurts in the UK with the so called 'friendly bacteria' in them.

They are usually smaller than normal yoghurt containers and the contents usuallly tastes quite sweet.

I think lactobacillus is the main freindly ingredient, but it also needs to survive digestion to get to where its good.

Here today vioa Michele's - Hiya!

Let me know how it works. I have IBS..the kind that never ever gets to go and without medication would have a violent attack after about 5 days. I am also doing the probiotic yogart by Dannon everyday. My medication ZELNORM was recently pulled off the market so who knows what I am going to do.
