A long weekend
I didn't get much done this weekend. For some reason I've been extremely tired for nearly 3 weeks now. I've actually been sleeping for an hour or so each day when I get home from work and that's exceedingly unusual for me. Kinda freaky, actually. I just don't normally need much sleep.
As a result, I've slept a good deal of this weekend away and maybe that'll help. It's like I'm sick but I don't feel sick. Does that happen to anyone else?
As for what I am doing, tonight I watched about a third of that Borat movie. Just not my cup of tea. I didn't find it very funny and finally gave up on it. Last night I watched You, Me and Dupree and thought that one was pretty flat also. I'm having bad luck with movies from the library lately--but the last one should be better. It's one of the recent movies about Truman Capote called Infamous. I suspect it'll be a lot better than the other two movies.
I just started reading the new John Stanford book, Invisible Prey, and I'm very impressed with it. I'm only 80 pages in so far and I can't believe how well he's weaving a number of elements together. The book is oddly self-referential for Stanford and often there's a three level smoke and mirrors approach going on involving past books as well as gags involving the characters. I've never seen Sandford write this way before and I suspect I'm only getting at best half of the references.

Have you read any of Greg Iles? Blood Memory is really good. Well, I like all of his books so far. Lots of texture and intricate plot twists. Another good summer read is The Ghost Writer by John Harwood. My current read is The No Asshole Rule by Robert Sutton. It is amusing. Of course, I have the Management Strategies textbook (boring!) and the research on forensic accounting for my graduation project...feel free to read any of those for me and help a sister out.
I saw the neew Pireates of the carribean film over the weekend. I really didn't think it was very good. It relied far too much on the big effects and was far too long. The plot was awfully busy too. A shame.
I am ashamed to say I liked the Borat movie, but then I liked Private Parts...in my defense my nephew played it while I was visiting. Have not seen You, Me and Dupree and won't. I was right, Jesus Camp anoyed me, so I watched I, Robot and agreed with the review - too many effects, too much Will Smithism, and to long.
Am currently reading the Lucifer Effect by Philip Zimbardo. He ran the Stanford prison experiment back in the 70's and is finally writing about it in relation to Abu Ghraib. So far I've only gotten through the experiment and am in the analysis. I think I'm trying to understand the nature and capacity for evil some (all?) of us possess. Happy Tuesday!
Ps-keep the alter ego to yourself next time........no one else noticed it.
All the time. And that's a good thing. It's why weekends were invented, and you deserve a good rest for all the brain-intensive work that you do during the week.
Thank you so much, btw, for your kind comment on my blog. Very much appreciated!
