Happy New Year!

I wasn't aware of it but yesterday marked the New Year (Norouz) for Iranians. The lovely Mariam over at Mariamusic posted about this so I'm doing a copycat thing here.

According to Wikipedia:

Norouz is celebrated in Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Albania, Georgia, the countries of Central Asia such as Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, as well as among various other Iranian and Turkic people in Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, India, Northwestern China, the Caucasus, the Crimea, and the Balkans.

Norouz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the Iranian year. It is celebrated by some communities on March 21st and by others on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox (start of spring in northern hemisphere), which may occur on March 20th, 21st or 22nd.

A little multiculturism for the day. In other events I sold a stock yesterday for a nice gain and promptly bought more of a stock that hasn't gone anywhere but down in the month that I've owned it. Talk about good money chasing bad. I need my head examined!

For any of you that want to track my degradation and misery, the company is called Threshold Pharmaceuticals and trades under the symbol THLD. Threshold is a biotechnology company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of drugs based on Metabolic Targeting. That's an approach that targets fundamental differences in metabolism between normal and certain diseased cells. Pretty generic description but what do you want from shares that only cost a buck fifty each? Shakespeare?! I have a strong feeling I'm going to regret this!

I did not know that.
Did YOU know that the libraries now have a new fangled way to check the books out? It is a rectangular tray, looks a lot like a granite countertop. You can set a stack or two stacks of books... I personally had six, and yes the books were just sitting there on top of each other... you set them on this special counter and two seconds later, the lady says they are all checked out. No flap opening, no scanner passing, nothing. Magic. No it's something about a transmitter in each book that gets to the computer even though they are sitting one on top of the next... amazing.. eerie but amazing.

I learned 2 new things! From you, about Threshold and from SRP about libraries. I seldom use a library anymore. Michele sent me today, Dave. Enjoy our lovely weather!

I dunno - that company sounds like it's on to a good thing. They just need a drug, right? :>
