allergens

This weekend I'm on holiday. An allergen-free holiday, to be exact. The past 3 weekends I've been exposed to this horrific allergen that has totally stuffed up my head immediately on exposure. It's been like being hit in the face with a frying pan. Cast iron! It's really freaky how fast my sinuses closed up and my head felt like a balloon. And talk about pain!

The thing is, while that immediate response takes about a day to go away--my sinuses don't open up all the way for a while. So for the next 3 days, I'm fine as long as I'm vertical but as soon as I lay down the sinuses fill up again and along comes nasty sinus headaches--so only a short sleep period before I'm woken. It's not until Thursday that I start feeling good and then I get exposed a few days later.

The allergen is hiding in the hair of a certain person I know so avoiding it this weekend is forcing me to make a huge sacrifice. Maybe I could just ask her to shave her head...

Onto Television! I was very annoyed with Num3ers last night. I think they covered the art angle very poorly with all sorts of things either wrong or far too simplified--and judgemental, to boot. Did anyone else watch that? Men in Trees was interesting in the sex filled soap opera sense. They were all humping like rabbits. Maybe they're really trying to work the ratings on the show, or something. Overall I liked the episode and think the broad gender observations are on track though when they mosey over into individual behavior I think the writers lose it. Way too many silly situations occuring because of poor communication--not a shocker when done by men since we're deficient in that area, but the women in the show are guilty of it also. As a result the plotting comes off as too artificial since it relies on all this miscommunication to develop the "funny parts".

PS I might have had trouble going over to her house anyway. She lives just outside the area that was evacuated near Apex, NC, because of the fire at the hazardous waste company yesterday. In fact her son, who's an assistant manager, had to close up and leave his restaurant by order of the Fire Department due to the fumes from the fire. Several roads are closed so I'm not sure how I'd get there--maybe I'd have to go around by the airport and Crossroads...

Comments

I didn't get to watch Numb3rs last night. I got sucked into watching Law & Order which was quite annoying.

I have honestly never watched numb3rs before. I think they went crazy pushing all the relationships forward in one episode last night on Men In Trees, but I am still giving the show a chance....

I thought about you as soon as I heard about the Apex fire. Glad you're not in the middle of it.

Hairborne allergen? Damn, that sucks. Is it fixable? Can a change in shampoo or trip through a touchless car wash (without the car, of course) help matters?

Here from Michele's. I hope you're enjoying your allgery-free weekend!

A new shampoo is a must.

That, or a lifetime supply of Mucinex...

Did she have to evacuate her home? WRAL mentioned that as a possibility.

I've kind of given up on all tv this season, save for Degrassi: The Next Generation, which continues to rock despite my advanced age.

I've given it a pretty good try, but I have to say Men In Trees just isn't doing it for me.

What do you take for the allergy, Dave? Tylenol Severe Allergy Sinus always makes my life liveable again. Ask her to change shampoos or something!

I missed Men in Trees last night due to grandchildren being here. I hope they find their niche, because I do think the show has promise.

here from Micheles,
My 16 year old loves Numbers, I've watched it a few times, but I have trouble keeping up with the 2 or 3 shows I really like (like Jericho) so I haven't watched it this season at all yet- never heard of Men in Trees

Back again Utenzi, thanks for the comments, I'm glad you liked the haircuts! I haven't heard from Chrissie since so I don't know that she actually liked her haircut the next day!

How come she just doesn't change hair products??

Get well soon :o)

In New Zealand we are way behind on TV shows - we have Numbers but undoubtedly not the episode you are complaining of. We don't have Men in Trees yet - but I have to say, nearly all sitcoms rely on "failure to communicate" for their humour.
I had the same thought as a number of other commenters - it seems well worth asking her to change to a low allergen shampoo and see if that helps.

That sounds like a truly scary allergen. I can't comment on the TV though...I haven't watched anything current in months and months. :)

I just can't watch "Men in Trees". I absolutely cannot STAND Anne Heche. I hated it when she was on Nip/Tuck for awhile, because I just loathe her. You know how that is? Sometimes there's just an actor that you cannot stomach? That's her, for me.

Are you watching "Ugly Betty"? I just love it.

Here via michele, Dave. And I've updated Cyberia! I've just been too busy to play lately. ;)
