Ickers

Well, this is the new look to the blog. At least for a few days. As you can see, there's a number of places where my graphics are less than seamless. Dammit. There's a reason people pay money to have a professional do this crap! LOL

Actually I enjoy doing this and even the aggravation of having things not work right is something I like since I love to fiddle with things--trying to get them just right. Just ask my girlfriend, another work in progress.

I also love to complain about things that I'm working on that aren't quite right--which is what this post is all about. Me bellyaching. :-)

For anyone that hasn't been here before or hasn't in a while, the picture to the left is the way the blog used to look. I've still got to insert some javascript and blog links into the template here but it's mostly finished.

Well, this will be the learning experience that enables me to make the blog of my dreams. LOL

Hi Utenzi. I love the new look, and think you're being too hard on yourself: it looks perfect to me.

About the only thing I can think of - and it's a really minor one - is that the banner picture, wonderful as it is, is too tall. I've got to scroll through an awful lot of photo before I get to the good stuff. On lower-res screens, it may not even be initially apparent that this is a blog.

Sorry for letting the below-the-fold mentality of a journalist get through there.

Utenzi: I like it. The dog is great! Keep working on it and you'll have it the way you want it soon. That's why I leave mine the way it is. I keep thinking I;m going to change it and then #^$%% I decide it will be too hard to get done!

I really do like the look of the new template. But I have to be honest, the dog picture gives me the creeps. If that is you intended, you have done well! LOL!

I like the new color, Utenzi, but for me to read it easily, the print would have to be larger. When there is only a little contrast between the background and the print, I sometimes have trouble reading.

Give that dog red eyes if he is indeed the helldog.

Thanks, Carmi. I agree about the picture. I know you have a monitor like mine, set for 1600x1200, so to us the picture isn't so big. But for people with XGA or even worse SVGA settings, it must seem enormous. Having a much smaller picture at the top is a change I'll implement this week.

Deputy's Wife, yeah, that was part of the point. Since originally the picture was just for myself--to get the sizing right--nobody else was going to see it. I just got attached to it so that's why it's still there. Like I mentioned to Carmi, I'm going to replace the picture soon. I do like it tho.

Judy, I'll probably change the CSS to create larger print. I have to see what it looks like on the small screen of my laptop at work to get more of a feel for it. On my monitor here at home, with the res cranked all the way up, it's really, really small.

I like the color, though for us OLDER folks, the black against it might be bigger so that it is easier to read...
But...the Head Of The Dog....Oh Dear! I find it painful, truly...
But, my dear Utenzi, it's your blog and you need it to reflect you and who you are.
So...are you saying you are the head of a beheaded dog-wolf???

I like the background color but These Old Eyes wish the font was bigger or Bold...
I find the Dog-Wolf head very very painful...and those eyes....!
But, it is your blog Utenzi and it should reflect who you are....
So...Are You saying that you are the diembodied head of a Dog-Wolf with glassy dead eyes???

I mentioned a few days ago that I'd purchased off of Craig's List an exercise machine. A Nitroflex, to be more specific, for the grand sum of $75. The boxes you see to the left were bought by the seller as discontinued merchandise over a year ago and stored in his back yard storage shed. You might be able to see some of the bugs and such that had made their homes on these boxes. I left them out on my deck for a few days before opening them to allow the insects to leave gracefully or die in the sun. dogs and cancer

Like the old commercials for Fruit Loops, a Kelloggs' breakfast cereal , would say: "A nose, it always knows". While that commercial was referring to Toucan Sam, I'm just using this as a lead in to talk about how sensitive dog noses are and how they can be used, perhaps, to detect cancer. There have been a number of mentions of this in the media recently. Here's two items from CBC news this year. One story that ran on 60 Minutes and another from the Early Show . Both of these stories refer to a study run by Dr. Bob Gordon of the Scripts Clinic in La Jolla which used urine samples of cancer patients and healthy people to determine how well dogs could detect differences in odor between the two. That study resulted in the conclusion that a trained dog could detect cancer to a degree that was 3 times greater than could be accounted for by mere chance. Pretty good but not great. ankle update

S ince a few people object to seeing my feet --poor misdirected souls--I have the two pictures below hidden behind links. Behold them at your own risk! *evil laugh* Actually they're not scary though the first one is a little colorful. T he first picture shows my ankle and foot from the side, as labeled. You can see a lot of general edema of the entire foot. There's also a good bit of discoloration of the ankle area and to a lesser degree the top of the foot all the way down to the toes. The side view is a lot worse in this regard than the top view. T he second picture shows the two feet from the top so you can compare the somewhat normal looking right foot to the injured left foot. There's not much abnormal color on this view but you can see the "sausage like" swelling of the left foot. It's this swelling that is causing my main problem--I can't get the foot into my boots and I need the boots to support the ankle. Damn Catch-22. Side view, looking inward ...
