Used Furniture

Yesterday on my way home from work I picked up a few piece of used furniture. I could have saved some money just by throwing some old stuff out--but since I hate doing that I needed to buy things to store my old stuff in. Hence the old--and very CHEAP--furniture.

I got a small chest for the bedroom, two medium size rolling file cabinents, and one small buffet table for the kitchen. All told it was $175 including tax. Not bad but they certainly aren't pretty-- which is why they were cheap! See what you think...

One of the file cabinents has been dusted off and the other is still dirty. The buffet has some kind of copper thing on top and it's pretty solid wood. The other pieces are very light and cheap.

Okay, I shop thrift stores religiously and I never find things that cheap unless they are missing a drawer or leg or something. I'm a crafter type so I'd probably look for a way to cover or decorate the the files and chest. The buffet actually looks like it might clean up pretty nice.

Hey Dave see if you can find a chest of drawers that can fit in a car.

Used furniture, especially at auctions, can be quite the bargain. I don't like going through want ads because it's too much driving around and no selection but auctions and used furniture places are often really good--and cheap. Another great place is bulletin boards at colleges where there's always overturn of students and faculty.

You're right Natalie. Since I took the pictures this morning I cleaned up the buffet and it's much better looking than I thought it would be. I was afraid I'd have to paint it. Ick. But the wood, while damaged, isn't too bad now.

Jack, Jack, Jack. You really need to get that housing issue settled. A month is too long to wait!

A virtual photo journal of used furniture? Glad to be able to say hello. I came here before but could not leave a non-blooger.com comment.

Those are really nice, what a great find! I love old and used furniture. New stuff is lifeless but previously used furniture has a character and an aura to it.

Hi utenzi! I'm visiting you today via Michele's meet-n-greet! I think you got a good deal on all the stuff you bought. Some of it isn't too bad looking! lol However, I prefer lighter woods to darker woods.
BTW, I liked your polls..I may have to put a poll or 2 on my blog! Please stop by and visit some time!

I'm addicted to antique furniture, so don't feel bad. :)

I'm bad. My solution to the clutter would be to put all the extra stuff in a storage unit and then slowly give or throw it all away. I avoid buy things just so I don't eventually have to get rid of them. Saves money, headaches and time. Though I will be in the market for a new bookself soon. I think you may have inspired me to check out the thrift stores.

I'd say that qualifies as 'good' Lora. I wish I could do that myself. I am just horrid at the throwing things away task.
